FAREWELL SRINIVAS:
OssiCare will miss you!

Srinivas K P, or “ Cheta” as he was respectfully and affectionately referred to by his colleagues at OssiCare, is no more.

He passed away in the early hours of yesterday, aged 67.

Srinivas joined our OssiCare team since its inception in January 2004, and worked with us ever since until June 2025, when he took ill. When he joined OssiCare, he was at a low point in his personal life. While working here, he found the peace, security, happiness and companionship that a family might provide. OssiCare gave him a reason to live, and literally and physically, was his home in the last few years of his life.

He was “ Cheta” or elder brother, to his colleagues, whom he indulged with little treats and gestures of kindness, which gave him the satisfaction of sharing.

Many of our regular OssiCare patients will remember his presence at the front desk, and several had built up a warm personal rapport with him over these past 21 years.

Srinivas, you are an integral part of the OssiCare story, and we shall remember you with warmth and respect.

May the passage of your soul to Vaikuntha be smooth, and may you rest in eternal peace!

JOINT EFFORTS ACHIEVE 500 JOINTS

Our department of orthopaedics at Manipal Hospital, HAL Airport Road, Bangalore achieved the significant milestone of crossing 500 robotic total joint replacements recently.

500 is not just a number on an excel sheet, but translates to real people whose mobility has been improved & lives have been changed by this marriage of technology and medicine.

Here is a big shout out to the entire team of Consultants, Anaesthetists, Referral consultants, the Stryker MAKO team, Junior doctors, Physiotherapists, MHB Orthopaedic management support team, nurses, OT technicians and support staff, OPD team and support staff, Billing , admissions and support personnel , enthusiastically supported by the senior management of our hospital.

Each one has played an invaluable role in this joint effort to achieve this proud milestone!

COMPREHENSIVE USE OF MAKO ROBOTIC TECHNOLOGY IN A SINGLE DAY: A UNIQUE MILESTONE

Robotic-Arm assisted technology has enabled Orthopaedic surgeons across the globe to achieve greater accuracy in Total Joint Replacement surgery.

In this post, I am pleased to share a unique milestone in our MAKO Robotics journey at Manipal Hospital, HAL Airport Road, Bangalore.

On Tuesday, January 7th, 2025, my team did 5 Robotic surgeries on 3 patients in a single day, including

• Robotic Total knee replacements for both knees in one patient
• Robotic Partial Knee Replacement in for both knees the second patient, and
• Robotic Revision Hip Replacement on a single hip in the third patient.

This is the first time in the Manipal Hospitals family and only the second time in India this combination of Bilateral Total knee replacements, Bilateral Partial Knee Replacements and a Revision Hip Replacement surgeries has been done by a single surgeon at a single institution in a single day using the MAKO system.

The image accompanying this post demonstrates the accuracy of Robotic assisted surgery in achieving optimal alignment for our patients.

OssiCare TURNS 20!

I am proud to share that OssiCare, (an acronym for O-rthopaedic S-urgery & S-ports I-njury C-linic A-nd R-ehabilitation E-stablishment), which was established on 19th January, 2004, completed 20 years of service yesterday, 19th January 2024.

Team OssiCare is ever grateful to the tens of thousands of first-time patients and over a hundred thousand review patients who have availed of our Consultation, Physiotherapy and Radiology services over the last two decades.

We have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to treat patients quite literally from around the globe, including three generations from the same families and a countless number of patient-to-patient word-of-mouth referrals which has driven and sustained our growth over these last 20 years.

Dr. Biraj and I are fortunate that many of our team who joined us soon after our inception in 2004, are still with us, including Usha, our nurse-receptionist, Srinivas, our Clinic coordinator, Manikandan, our Physiotherapist and Kanchana, our housekeeping staff. In addition, our team of Radiographers Murali, Vivek and Dhananjay, who joined us in 2013, Priyanka, our physiotherapist, who joined us in 2017 and Samraj, our technician who joined us in 2018, are also still very much with us.

I have been ably supported by several associates over the years, including Dr. Amit Agarwal in the early years, Dr. Bijai from 2013-17, Dr. Anoop from 2017-20, Dr. Rajesh from 2019-23, and currently by Dr. Pheomishan since August 2023.

We are grateful to all our team members who are still with us, and those who have been part of our team in the past, for being such a vital part of the OssiCare story.

It has been a wonderful journey so far!
