Comprehensive Cleft Care CME/CDE 2026 at GMC Baramulla
Baramulla, June 10: The Department of Dentistry, Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, successfully organized a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme on “Comprehensive Cleft Care: A Holistic Approach Towards Cleft Lip and Palate Patients”. The event focused on raising awareness, promoting early intervention, and strengthening multidisciplinary care for cleft patients.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid (IAS), graced the inaugural session as Chief Guest, while Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kaur, Principal/Dean, Government Dental College (GDC) Srinagar, attended as Guest of Honour.
The programme was held under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jahangir, Principal/Dean GMC Baramulla, with support from Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, Medical Superintendent GMC Baramulla; Prof. (Dr.) Shafkat Ahmed Lone, Registrar Academics and Head, Department of ENT; Prof. (Dr.) H.U. Malik, President IDA; and Dr. Omer Hussain Misger, Head, Department of Dentistry and Organizing Secretary.
During the inaugural session, dignitaries inspected stalls showcasing awareness materials, treatment modalities, and initiatives related to cleft care and oral health.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner commended the Department of Dentistry for organizing the programme and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to healthcare initiatives. He emphasized early identification and timely management of cleft cases, urging the team to conduct awareness and screening camps in peripheral and remote areas. He also highlighted the objectives of the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan and acknowledged GMC Baramulla’s role in rehabilitation and awareness programmes.
He further encouraged the organizers to extend similar initiatives to far-flung areas under the Vibrant Village Programme to ensure healthcare access for underserved communities.
Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kaur congratulated GMC Baramulla for introducing comprehensive cleft care services and stressed the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration for holistic treatment. Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jahangir also praised the Dentistry Department for strengthening specialized healthcare services in the district.
The CME/CDE programme aimed to sensitize frontline healthcare workers, including ASHA workers, ANMs, and midwives, on early identification of cleft cases, feeding techniques, psychosocial support, and timely referrals.
More than 250 delegates participated, including Heads of Departments from GMC Baramulla,GDC Srinagar, SKIMS Medical College Bemina, GMC Anantnag, and GMC Doda, along with doctors from peripheral institutions and healthcare workers across Baramulla district.
