One belief, an Indian middle-class value that was honest in it’s essence but doesn’t work that way in real life: “Do good and good will happen to you”, a lie that we were told as children, one that we realised as an adult.
But why am I so cynical about this? Because it’s an oxymoron: it tells us to DO GOOD and return, an expectation will be fulfilled- that the world will now be good to ME. But expectations lead to anxieties within one’s self and amongst people who love each other.
So what can we do? GOOD, we DO good, that’s it. The rest is not in our control.
Keep it simple, lead from within and don’t let the world outside dictate who you are or who you become.
