Presbycusis is the medical term for age-related hearing loss, a common condition that develops gradually and symmetrically in both ears as a natural part of getting older. It is primarily a sensorineural condition, meaning it results from gradual wear and tear to the delicate hair cells and nerve pathways within the inner ear. Instead of making everything sound completely quiet, presbycusis typically affects clarity rather than volume; high-pitched sounds become muffled, making it especially difficult to distinguish consonant sounds (like "s", "f", and "th") or to understand speech when there is background noise. While this inner ear change cannot be reversed, it can be very effectively managed with professionally fitted hearing aids, assistive listening devices, and environmental adjustments to significantly preserve your communication skills and prevent social fatigue.

A deviated nasal septum occurs when the internal wall of cartilage and bone that separates your nostrils is off-center or crooked, making one nasal passage smaller than the other. While minor displacements are incredibly common and often go unnoticed, a more severe lean can significantly disrupt normal airflow. This can lead to uncomfortable symptoms like chronic nasal congestion, difficulty breathing through one or both sides of the nose, frequent nosebleeds, facial pain, and snoring or disrupted sleep. A deviated septum can be something you are born with, or it can develop after a physical injury to the face, such as a broken nose. While medications like nasal sprays and decongestants can provide temporary relief from swelling and congestion, they cannot physically straighten the cartilage; persistent or severe symptoms are typically corrected through a routine surgical procedure known as a septoplasty
