Today, on World Hepatitis Day, we join the global effort under this year’s theme: “Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down.”

Hepatitis is often silent, but its consequences can be devastating—cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer. Breaking it down means breaking down the barriers to awareness, testing, vaccination, and timely treatment.

As a gastroenterologist and hepatologist, I strongly encourage everyone to know their hepatitis status, get vaccinated against hepatitis B, and seek medical advice for any liver-related symptoms. Early detection saves lives, and many forms of hepatitis are preventable and treatable.

Let us work together to eliminate hepatitis through awareness, compassion, and action.

Protect your liver. Get tested. Get vaccinated. Spread awareness.

It was a great privilege to participate in the SGEI School of Innovation, Training and Research (SITAR) – Young Endoscopist Upskilling Programme (YES 2026) held at IMS & SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar.

I had the opportunity to deliver two lectures:
🔹 ERCP: CBD Stone Extraction
🔹 Complications of ERCP: Prevention and Management

In addition, I was pleased to contribute as faculty during the live endoscopy demonstration sessions, sharing practical techniques and discussing real-time decision-making with enthusiastic young endoscopists.

Teaching and mentoring the next generation of gastroenterologists is one of the most rewarding aspects of our profession. My sincere appreciation to the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI) and the organizing team especially Dr Jimmy Narayan for conducting such an outstanding hands-on training programme that combines academic excellence with practical skill development.

Looking forward to many more opportunities to learn, teach, and advance the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy together.

Happy Doctors’ Day!

On this Doctors’ Day, I reflect with gratitude on the privilege of caring for patients with digestive and liver diseases—a journey that often extends far beyond procedures and prescriptions. It is about listening with empathy, offering hope during uncertainty, and walking alongside patients through recovery and long-term healing.

To my patients and their families—thank you for your faith and confidence. Your resilience inspires us to strive for excellence every single day.

May we continue to heal with knowledge, serve with humility, and lead with compassion.

Happy Doctors’ Day!

🧘‍♀️ International Yoga Day 2026 🧘‍♂️

On this International Yoga Day, let us reaffirm the importance of a healthy mind, healthy body, and healthy lifestyle.

Yoga is much more than a form of exercise—it is a holistic practice that promotes physical well-being, mental resilience, emotional balance, and overall quality of life. Regular yoga has been shown to reduce stress, improve flexibility, enhance cardiovascular health, and contribute positively to digestive health and metabolic wellness.

As healthcare professionals, we strongly advocate incorporating simple yoga practices into daily routines as a powerful tool for preventive health and wellness.

This International Yoga Day, take a step towards a healthier future by embracing the timeless wisdom of yoga.

“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.”

Wishing everyone good health, inner peace, and well-being.

Global Fatty Liver Day 2026

“Act Now. Screen Today. Protect Your Liver Tomorrow.”

Today, the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, KIMS (KIIT University) proudly observed Global Fatty Liver Day with a series of public awareness initiatives aimed at combating the silent epidemic of fatty liver disease.

The day began with an enthusiastic Walkathon, bringing together faculties, students, staff, patients, and community members to spread the message that healthy lifestyle choices can prevent and reverse fatty liver disease.

Throughout the day, our department will conduct FREE FibroScan (liver stiffness assessment) and Hepatitis B & C screening in the outpatient department, encouraging early detection and timely intervention for liver diseases.

Fatty liver disease affects millions of people and often remains unnoticed until advanced stages. Fortunately, it is largely preventable and reversible with regular exercise, a balanced diet, weight management, and timely health check-ups.

We thank everyone who participated and supported this initiative. Together, we can raise awareness, promote healthy living, and reduce the burden of chronic liver disease.

💚 Healthy Liver, Healthy Life!

World IBD Day | May 19

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis, affects millions worldwide and often impacts patients during the most productive years of life. Beyond the physical symptoms, IBD can significantly affect emotional well-being, nutrition, education, work, and quality of life.

On this World IBD Day, let us raise awareness, encourage early diagnosis, fight stigma, and support those living with these chronic conditions. With advancing therapies, multidisciplinary care, and patient education, many individuals with IBD can lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

As gastroenterologists, our role goes beyond treatment — it is about listening, supporting, and walking alongside our patients through every stage of their journey.

Together, let us spread awareness and compassion for IBD.

Grateful to have been a part of the enriching GI Cross Talks – Season One held on 2nd May 2026 at Mayfair, Bhubaneswar.

I had the opportunity to contribute as a panelist in the session on “Critical Care Issues in Gastroenterology”, alongside an esteemed group of colleagues. The discussion was insightful, clinically relevant, and reinforced the importance of collaborative learning in improving patient care.

Such academic interactions continue to inspire us to stay updated, think critically, and deliver better outcomes for our patients.

Special thanks to Dr Sushant Sethy sir for the opportunity and kind invitation.

Looking forward to many more such engaging platforms.
