Good posture helps maintain proper alignment of the spine, muscles, and joints, reducing unnecessary strain and discomfort. Sitting or standing with poor posture for long periods may contribute to back, neck, and shoulder pain.

Keep your back supported, adjust your screen to eye level, take regular movement breaks, and stay active to support better posture and spinal health.

Our Department of Orthopaedics, KIMS, successfully observed the 15th Bone and Joint Week under the theme “Strong Bone, Strong Joints Lead to a Better Life – Stronger India.”

The week-long initiative featured health screenings, awareness sessions, osteoporosis detection, fall-prevention guidance, posture awareness, and injury-prevention education.

As part of the programme, our team screened 1,235 students at KISS, conducted well-being sessions for orthopaedic professionals, organised awareness programmes for senior citizens and patient attendants, and held a free BMD camp benefiting around 80 individuals.

Through these initiatives, we continue to promote bone and joint health, early detection, preventive care, and a better quality of life for all.

Dr. Preetam Nath, Professor, Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, KIMS, talks about Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), commonly known as acid reflux.

GERD occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the esophagus, causing symptoms such as heartburn, acid regurgitation, chest discomfort, and difficulty swallowing. If left untreated, it can lead to complications affecting the esophagus.

Prevention is key — eat smaller meals, avoid spicy and fatty foods, maintain a healthy weight, avoid lying down immediately after eating, and limit smoking and alcohol consumption.

Dr. Dayanidhi Meher, Professor, Department of Endocrinology, KIMS, talks about how diabetes affects pregnancy.

Women above 35 years, those with a family history of diabetes, or gestational diabetes are at higher risk of pregnancy complications. Uncontrolled diabetes can affect the baby, causing neonatal hypoglycemia, hypocalcemia, hyperbilirubinemia, and increasing the risk of obesity and cardiometabolic diseases later in life.

Prevention is essential — early blood sugar screening, medical nutrition therapy, a balanced diet, regular antenatal check-ups, and proper diabetes management can help ensure a healthy pregnancy.

Breastfeeding provides essential nutrition, strengthens a baby’s immunity, supports healthy growth and development, and helps protect against infections. For mothers, it supports recovery after childbirth and offers important long-term health benefits.

Our Department of Community Medicine doctors at KIMS highlight the importance of breastfeeding for the health and well-being of both mother and baby.

Prevention begins with proper breastfeeding practices — exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, followed by continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods, helps build a strong foundation for lifelong health.

Myth: You need to spend hours at the gym to stay fit.
Fact: Even 30 minutes of moderate physical activity most days of the week can improve heart health, strengthen muscles, boost mood, and reduce the risk of many chronic diseases.

Consistency is more important than intensity—every step counts toward better health.
