A 52-year-old male patient had been suffering from severe back pain for a long time, which was radiating down to his leg. He was unable to sit or walk properly and came to us for treatment.

We advised an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), which revealed nerve compression between L5 and S1.

We then performed Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic Spine Surgery, a minimally invasive procedure using two small ports from one side.

Compared to open surgery, this technique involves smaller incisions, resulting in less pain and faster recovery. The patient was able to walk from the very next day after the operation and is expected to return to his normal routine soon.

ପୁରୀରୁ (Puri) ୪୨ ବର୍ଷୀୟା ଜଣେ ମହିଳା ରୋଗୀ ଗତ ୧ ବର୍ଷ ଧରି ଗର୍ଦ୍ଧନ (neck) ରେ ଭୟଙ୍କର ବେଦନା (severe pain) ଅନୁଭବ କରୁଥିଲେ, ଯାହା ହାତକୁ ପ୍ରସାରିତ (radiating) ହେଉଥିଲା। ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଔଷଧ (medication) ନେଇଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ କୌଣସି ସୁଧାର (improvement) ହେଉନଥିଲା, ତେଣୁ ସେ ଆମ ପାଖକୁ ଆସିଥିଲେ।
MRI (MRI scan) କରିବା ପରେ ଜଣାପଡିଲା ଯେ ତାଙ୍କର ସର୍ଭାଇକାଲ୍ ମାଏଲୋପାଥି (cervical myelopathy) ସହ କର୍ଡ୍ କମ୍ପ୍ରେସନ୍ (cord compression) C3-4 ସ୍ତରରେ ରହିଛି। ତେଣୁ ଆମେ ସର୍ଜରି (surgery) ପାଇଁ ପରାମର୍ଶ (advice) ଦେଲୁ।
କିନ୍ତୁ ସେ ଭୟଭୀତ (afraid) ଥିଲେ ଯେ ସର୍ଜରି ପରେ ତାଙ୍କ ଶରୀର ପାରାଲାଇଜ୍ (paralyzed) ହେଇଯିବ କି କଣ, କାରଣ ସର୍ଭାଇକାଲ୍ ସ୍ପାଇନ୍ ସର୍ଜରି (cervical spine surgery) କୁ ସେ ଜୋଖିମପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ (risky) ବୋଲି ଭାବୁଥିଲେ। ଆମେ ସେଙ୍କୁ ବୁଝାଇଲୁ ଯେ ଏହା ଏକ ସୁରକ୍ଷିତ (safe) ଏବଂ ସହଜ (easy) ସର୍ଜରି ଓ ସେ ଅପରେସନ୍ (operation) ପରବର୍ତ୍ତୀ ଦିନରୁ ଚାଲିପାରିବେ।
ସଫଳ ସର୍ଜରି ପରେ ସେ ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଭାବେ ଭଲ (completely fine) ଅଛନ୍ତି ଏବଂ ପ୍ରଥମ ଦିନରୁ ହିଁ ଚାଲିପାରୁଛନ୍ତି। ତାଙ୍କ ହାତର ଶକ୍ତି (power in hand) ମଧ୍ୟ ଫେରିଆସିଛି ଏବଂ ସେ ସୁସ୍ଥ (stable) ଅବସ୍ଥାରେ ଶୀଘ୍ର ଡିସ୍ଚାର୍ଜ (discharge) ହେବେ।
