Before IVF, Do You Really Need Hysteroscopy & Laparoscopy?

🔹 Egg collection is usually done through the vaginal route, but in selected cases, hysteroscopy or laparoscopy may be considered.

🔹 If a polyp, endometrial adhesion, or small uterine septum is found, hysteroscopy can sometimes be performed during the same anaesthesia as egg collection.

🔹 Certain cervical or uterine procedures may require additional time and planning.

🔹 If there is a large fibroid, significant adhesions, or a need for laparoscopic tubal clipping, combining procedures with routine IVF day-care treatment may not always be preferred.

🔹 Only a small proportion of IVF patients may actually require hysteroscopy or laparoscopy before IVF.

🔹 For patients undergoing IVF for the first time without any other indication, routine hysteroscopy or laparoscopy is generally not necessary.

These procedures should be performed when there is a clear medical indication—not routinely for every IVF patient.

India Does Not Reward Meritocracy

By the way, I am from the pre-NEET UG era
After MBBS, I wrote 13 separate entrance exams because there was no single national exam. Every institute meant another application, another journey and another expense.
In 2012, I faced the PGI Chandigarh paper leak. When the exam was rescheduled, I travelled again in the biting cold and spent heavily on flights—just to compete for around 50 general-category seats. My father questioned the expense, but I believed merit required sacrifice.
Then came the first NEET-PG—confusing, unclear and running alongside a mela of other exams. Some candidates from Chennai were allotted centres as far away as Bhubaneswar.
The system was broken from the beginning: no clarity, consistency or accountability.
NEET may standardise an entrance exam, but it cannot create meritocracy in a system where money, connections, family background and social networks still influence opportunities.
After MBBS, many hardworking middle-class doctors earn almost as much as support staff while carrying responsibility for diagnosis, emergencies and patient care.
Government jobs are scarce. Recruitment takes years. Contract jobs offer little security. Corporate hospitals often mean long hours, inadequate pay and no respect.Many doctors are first-generation graduates supporting entire families.
And society still calls doctors greedy, labels them looters and conducts social-media trials whenever a patient dies—even before the facts are known.
This is not UK where jobs are stable or there's atleast a fair chance of a job.

When a country does not value healthcare, how will it value its doctors?
No exam is worth your life.

This milestone comes 10 years after completing postgraduate training and 8 years after completing FNB in Reproductive Medicine.
