Happy to be a part of walkathon held in Elliot’s Beach, Besant Nagar, on Sunday 9 th August to mark National Vascular Day and raise awareness about vascular diseases and limb health.Nearly one in three people with diabetes is expected to develop a diabetic foot ulcer during their lifetime, making early screening and timely intervention critical to preventing severe infections and lower-limb amputations.August 2026 also marks my entry into 24 th year of Vascular Surgical practise and as years fly past my focus and desire is to spread awareness of preventive aspect of life style diseases including early and timely intervention..

Happy to be a part of National campaign to prevent Amputations in patients with Diabetic foot ulcers and Peripheral arterial occlusive diseases which falls August 6 th every year. Studies indicate that 60–70% of people with diabetes develop peripheral Vascular occlusive disease and neuropathy—reduced Blood flow to legs along with loss of sensation that can allow minor injuries to go unnoticed until patients presenting in critical conditions ending up loosing their legs.This year marks my 24 th anniversary year of my Vascular Surgical practise and as the years pass by my focus now is to spread awareness of prevention and early recognition of lifestyle diseases..

Varicose veins remains silent within the limits of managing day to day routine life for majority of people during their initial years of disease.Medical attention is sought when symptoms like heaviness of legs,calf cramps ,leg swelling ,skin discolouration,Itching ,Eczema often managed with medications without addressing the underlying ongoing Venous blood pooling in the legs due to weak valves and chronic reflux of blood and inflammation within tissues of lower limbs.This lead to situations when Varicose veins become a MEDICAL EMERGENCY as described in the press release in Times of India.

Persistent leg swelling over both lower limbs is often ignored since it does not limit once daily routine activities unless there is Acute pain ,skin discolouration,itching or a non healing leg ulceration.As the swelling is asymptomatic for many years patients present late with aggravated symptoms.The right time to evaluate is when there are less severe symptoms and get the appropriate treatment rather than to wait for more severe symptoms to emerge.

Lifestyle disease such as Obesity ,Diabetes and Hypertension has profound consequences in Circulatory System affecting both Arterial and Vein health.
Circulatory diseases are the prime reason of age related chronic inflammatory problems such as blockage in blood vessels,cancer,blood clots ,deteriorating bone and muscle health leading to delayed recovery and ultimately losing one’s ability to lead a normal life.

Most common reason for Ulcers in the leg which can be recurrent and non healing is due to defective circulation in the veins medically known as Chronic Venous Insufficiency.
Varicose veins which can occur due to lack of structural integrity within the veins is the frequent cause for Chronic Venous insufficiency.At times past history of Deep vein. Thrombosis can be associated with Non healing leg ulcers.Leg ulcers can be treated and given a cure if the reason is identified precisely which can change the lives of these patients who are physiologically drained due to physically limiting their day to day activities
