Can You Turn Suddenly During Pregnancy? 🤰 Myth or Fact?

Many pregnant women hear that they should sit up first and then change sides while sleeping. But is this actually necessary, or is it another pregnancy myth?

Dr. Divya Prakash explains what you really need to know. 👩‍⚕️💜

Write-up

During pregnancy, you may have heard advice like “Don’t turn suddenly while sleeping” or “Sit up first before changing sides.”

For most uncomplicated pregnancies, you don’t need to sit up every time just to turn from one side to another in bed. As your pregnancy progresses, changing positions slowly and comfortably may feel better because of the growing belly, pelvic discomfort, or dizziness.

The key is comfort and safety—not fear of normal movement. If a particular movement causes significant pain, dizziness, bleeding, contractions, or other concerning symptoms, speak with your healthcare professional.

Pregnancy comes with plenty of advice. Know the facts before believing the myths. 💜

Delayed Cord Clamping: A Small Delay, A Big Benefit for Baby 👶💜

Why rush to cut the cord? ⏳👶

Those first moments after birth can matter. Delayed cord clamping allows blood to continue flowing from the placenta to the newborn for a short period after delivery, providing additional blood and iron.

A small wait can support your baby’s healthy start. 💜

Write-up

Delayed cord clamping means waiting for a short period after birth before clamping and cutting the umbilical cord.

For many newborns, delaying clamping for at least 30–60 seconds can increase blood volume and improve iron stores, which may help reduce the risk of iron deficiency during infancy. For preterm babies, delayed clamping can offer additional important benefits.

The appropriate timing can vary depending on the condition of the mother and baby and the circumstances of delivery. Your obstetric and neonatal team will decide what is safest.

Pregnant or planning for delivery? Ask your doctor about delayed cord clamping as part of your birth plan. 🤰👶

Cord Around Baby’s Neck = C-Section? 🤰 Myth or Fact?

This is a common concern, especially when an ultrasound shows the umbilical cord around the baby’s neck. But does it automatically mean a C-section is necessary? Not always.

Watch Dr. Divya Prakash explain what it actually means and why the delivery plan depends on the overall condition of the mother and baby. 👩‍⚕️💜

Write-up

An umbilical cord around the baby’s neck is called a nuchal cord, and it can be seen during pregnancy. Finding one on a scan does not by itself mean that a C-section is required.

Doctors consider several factors, including the baby’s heart rate, position, labour progress, and the health of both mother and baby before deciding the safest mode of delivery.

So if your scan mentions a cord around the baby’s neck, don’t assume it automatically means cesarean delivery. Discuss the findings with your obstetrician and follow their advice based on your individual pregnancy.

Write up

Many families believe that pregnant women should avoid holding or using a knife, fearing it may affect the baby. However, there is no scientific evidence that simply holding a knife harms pregnancy.
The real focus should be on safe handling of sharp objects to avoid accidental injuries not on myths.
Pregnancy deserves knowledge over fear. Always rely on trusted medical guidance for the health of both mother and baby.
