Many people believe that a torn meniscus simply needs to be "cut and removed."

But modern arthroscopic surgery is changing that.

Recently, I treated a 54-year-old gentleman with a painful horizontal tear of the medial meniscus (the knee's natural shock absorber).

🔍 Years ago, this type of tear would often have been treated by removing part of the meniscus.

Today, whenever possible, our goal is different:

✅ Preserve the meniscus
✅ Preserve knee function
✅ Preserve the future of the joint

Why is this important?

The meniscus plays a vital role in:

Removing meniscal tissue may relieve symptoms initially, but it can also increase stress on the knee and potentially accelerate cartilage wear over time.

Using advanced arthroscopic techniques, I was able to repair and preserve the torn meniscus rather than remove it.

Persistent heel pain isn't always "just tendonitis."

Calcific Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy (CIAT) can be a debilitating condition, causing chronic pain, difficulty walking, and significant limitations in daily activities. While conservative treatments such as orthotics, physiotherapy, orthobiologics, and lifestyle modifications may help many patients, some continue to struggle despite prolonged treatment.

In advanced cases, surgical intervention becomes necessary to address both the damaged tendon and the underlying bony pathology.

Sharing a recent case of advanced CIAT managed with:
✔️ Haglund's deformity excision
✔️ Debridement of the diseased Achilles tendon
✔️ Flexor Hallucis Longus (FHL) tendon transfer with bio-screw fixation
✔️ Reattachment of the healthy Achilles tendon using suture anchors

The objective is to relieve pain, restore function, and help patients return to an active lifestyle with improved mobility and confidence.
