EXTERNALIZE THE FAILURE!

Does your child always wants to win and cannot accept failure?
Does your child give up at the first sign of failure or complexity?
Does your child find it difficult to try new games or activities?

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT YOUR CHILD MAY HAVE LOW SELF-CONFIDENCE.

One way of helping the child to cope with failure is to EXTERNALIZE the failure. So, what does it mean? When the child fails, we attribute the failure to another person or object and encourage the child to keep trying…

Let us take two examples

1. You are asking your child to throw the ball at a target. You have
10 balls for this task, the balls that hit the target are ‘good’ balls and you keep them aside in a tray. The balls that misses the target are ‘bad’ balls. We repeat the balls as our mission is not to convert them into ‘good’ balls

2. You are asking a child to write within a 2 cm square and the child is finding it difficult. You ask the child to do a Role Play for two people. You can call them Ram and Shyam, Dhoni and Kohli or anybody the child can relate to (let’s call them players)… Choose two different coloured pens / pencils / crayons to make the difference in players obvious. After 5 attempts for each player, we compare and find out who is the best!

The key here is to continue trying and not to play the blame game and stop the task!
