If you’re new to yoga and looking for books that are easy to read yet so informative, I got you! These are my favorites. They’re not only for beginners- I come back to them all the time, even after years of personal practice and teaching. I believe they shouldn’t be missing on your book shelf☺️

Have you heard of the gunas in Samkhya Yoga philosophy?

Little more on them which I couldn’t squeeze into this reel: The gunas don’t stop only at our moods, but they are understood as the the 3 fundamental qualities of prakriti, which is nature, or the material reality that we experience.

And because prakriti includes everything around us, we can notice the gunas beyond ourselves too.

Sattva can be found in natural light and quiet spaces, in fresh, nourishing food.

Rajas can show up in noise or crowded places, caffeine, or some experiences that are very stimulating.

Tamas can look like clutter or darkness, heavy meals, excessive sleep, or things that just feel kind of stagnant.

Neither we nor the things around us are permanently sattvic, rajasic, or tamasic. The gunas are always interacting, and their balance can shift depending on the circumstances.

I find it very interesting to look at things through the lens of the gunas! Maybe after this video, you can begin to notice them a little bit more too, not just within yourself, but also in the world around you.☺️
