Many everyday products contain chemicals known as endocrine disruptors. These chemicals can interfere with the body’s hormonal signals and have been associated with insulin resistance, weight gain, fertility issues, early puberty in children, thyroid dysfunction, and high blood pressure.
Here are some simple swaps you can make:
Instead of old plastic bottles
✅ Use glass, stainless steel, or copper bottles for drinking water.
👉 Never leave plastic bottles in a hot car or under direct sunlight.
Instead of conventional perfumes & deodorants
✅ Choose fragrance-free products or naturally scented alternatives like Attar.
👉 The fewer ingredients listed under “fragrance” or “parfum,” the better.
Instead of air fresheners & car fresheners
✅ Open windows regularly, use fresh flowers, dried lavender, vetiver (khus), lemon peels, cloves, or an essential oil diffuser.
👉 Fresh air is still the best air freshener.
Instead of scented fabric softeners
✅ Use fragrance-free detergents, wool dryer balls, or a small amount of white vinegar in the rinse cycle.
👉 Clothes don’t need to smell like perfume to be clean.
Instead of handling paper receipts unnecessarily
✅ Opt for digital receipts whenever possible.
👉 Wash your hands before eating if you’ve handled multiple receipts.
A few more Indian household swaps:
• Store hot sambar, rasam, dal, and curries in steel or glass instead of plastic containers.
• Avoid heating food in plastic containers
• Prefer steel lunch boxes and water bottles for children.
• Choose fresh homemade room fresheners using lemon, orange peels, cinnamon, cloves, or camphor.
• Reduce the use of heavily fragranced incense, candles, and cleaning products indoors.
