What is PKD?
PKD is a genetic disorder that runs in families, affecting men and women equally. In this condition, numerous fluid-filled cysts gradually replace normal kidney tissue, progressively impairing kidney function. These cysts aren't limited to the kidneys — they can also develop in the liver, pancreas, and other organs.
Why early detection matters?
PKD often shows warning signs early — high blood pressure can appear as young as 30–35 years of age, along with rising creatinine levels indicating declining kidney function. If left unmonitored, this steady decline can progress to dialysis dependency by the sixth decade of life.
Beyond the kidneys:
PKD can also lead to serious complications such as:
• Brain aneurysms, which carry a risk of hemorrhage
• Cyst infections
• Cyst rupture

Your kidneys work silently, often without symptoms until damage is significant. That's why regular screening is so important — especially if PKD runs in your family.
