AOCNR is the umbrella body of professionals dealing with neurorehabilitation in the Asia Oceanian region. As part of its activities, AOCNR organizes forum for patients, family members, caregivers and caretakers of patients suffering from various neurological deficits. The AOCNR 2021 4th Asia Oceanian Congress on Neuro Rehabilitation Conference had symposia, guest lectures, E-Posters, Quiz and even a Public Forum for all NGOs and patient support groups to join forces and share / disseminate knowledge amongst the patients and caregivers.
Neurorehabilitation is a complex medical process which aims to aid recovery from a nervous system injury, and to minimize and/or compensate for any functional alterations resulting from it. Audiologists are healthcare professionals who provide patient-centered care in the prevention, identification, diagnosis, and evidence-based management of hearing, balance, and other auditory disorders. Hearing and balance disorders are often complex and multifactorial.
An audiologist helps in identifying and diagnosing hearing loss caused due to a neurological disorder such as auditory neuropathy, central auditory processing disorders, Neoplasm and tumors, Brainstem encephalitis, Epilepsy, Demyelinating diseases, Hydrocephalus, Meningitis, Viral infections, Cerebrovascular disease, Cerebral palsy, Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), Hyperacusis, Tinnitus, Parkinson’s disease, Meniere’s disease, Vestibular disorders.
The main focus of audiologist in neurological setup is differentially diagnosed cochlear versus retrocochlear disorder. So, the audiologist has to be familiar with the symptoms and clinical manifestations of the disorders encountered. Therefore, all budding students of ASLP are highly encouraged to participate in conferences such as these to enrich your knowledge and apply it in practical forums.
