10 Years Later: A Life Transformed
A young man was brought to us with severe aggression, violence, and uncontrollable anger. His condition had become so difficult that even his parents were afraid to stay with him.
I had evaluated him nearly 10 years earlier and identified signs of an Impulse Control Disorder, with the possibility of it progressing into a Mood Disorder. However, because he was also suffering from kidney failure, his psychiatric treatment was discontinued, and only his renal condition was managed.
Years later, after a successful kidney transplant, his family returned with no other option. We reassured them that psychiatric treatment could be safely given alongside his medical care.
He was admitted for 25 days and received a combination of ECT, antipsychotic medication, and mood stabilizers. Gradually, the aggression reduced, his emotions became stable, and he regained control over his life.
Today, he is calm, manageable, and living happily with his family. His journey reminds us of one important truth:
Mental health should never be ignored because of a physical illness. Both can—and should—be treated together.
