Today, we mark the 140th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy—a visionary doctor, social reformer, and founder of the Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar.

She believed that no one should be denied cancer care because of financial difficulties. This belief led to the creation of an institution that continues to provide compassionate and high-quality cancer care to all.

As we remember her, we renew our commitment to continue her vision with the same care, compassion, and purpose.

Some battles begin in childhood. Some victories last a lifetime.

At just 7 years old, Fathima began a journey no child should have to face. Through the unwavering support of her family, the dedication of her care team at Cancer Institute (WIA), and her own remarkable resilience, she overcame cancer.

Today, 13 years cancer-free, she is pursuing her dream of joining the Indian Foreign Service—a testament to the fact that cancer does not define a person’s future.

This Sarcoma Awareness Month, we honour survivors like Fathima, whose journeys remind us that timely treatment, compassionate care, and hope can transform lives.

For over 72 years, Cancer Institute (WIA) has stood beside patients and families, delivering not just treatment, but hope, healing, and the opportunity to dream beyond cancer.
