Postdoctoral Research Fellow (m/f)(job code 19-2018)
Our research team is interested in the intersection of metabolism, protein quality control, and ageing. We pursue this research using a multidisciplinary approach that includes biochemistry, structural biology, cell biology, and genetics. We are most excited about forward genetic screening methods in cells and in the nematode C. elegans as these can reveal new biological mechanisms in an unbiased fashion. We further investigate our findings in mice, to test for conservation and physiologic relevance. Recently, we have established haploid stem cells as a tool for chemical mutagenesis in forward genetic screens. Now we want to take the next step and use this tool to investigate molecular pathways that are relevant for longevity. We seek a talented and highly motivated post-doctoral scientist to join our enthusiastic and collaborative team in an excellent scientific environment.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in biology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or a related field. She/he should have a strong scientific track record of accomplishments and proven research capabilities. The applicant should have a keen interest in the genetics of ageing and new genetic screening methods. As we are working in interdisciplinary teams, the candidate should also have excellent written and oral communication skills. The working language is English; knowledge of the German language is not required.

Research environment
The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing was founded in 2008 for the purpose of understanding fundamental mechanisms of healthy ageing. It is part of a broad network of research institutions in the Cologne-Bonn area dedicated to research on ageing and age-related disease, including the CECAD Cluster of Excellence at the University of Cologne, constituting a vibrant and collaborative environment for research. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and excellent core facilities, to which the successful candidate would have access, the institute provides outstanding research opportunities for its scientists.
