I never judge my patients until they say… Doctor,

I eat only idli & chapathi.

I have no time for walking/exercise.

I use only brown sugar/karupatti.

I have no complaints, so why should I go for a health check-up

At what age should you consider a HEART CALCIUM SCORE? ❤️

The newest 2026 ACC/AHA guidelines give us a clearer answer:

👨 Men: age 40+

👩 Women: age 45+

But that does NOT mean everyone should automatically get one.

A coronary artery calcium (CAC) scan is most useful when you have no known cardiovascular disease, but your risk is uncertain and knowing whether plaque is already present could change how aggressively we treat you.

Think: high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes/metabolic risk, strong family history, elevated Lp(a), or other cardiovascular risk enhancers.

But can a calcium score actually predict a heart attack?

Yes.

CAC measures the burden of calcified atherosclerotic plaque already present in your coronary arteries—and it adds predictive information beyond traditional risk factors.

Large studies such as MESA have shown a clear relationship:

CAC 0 → lowest risk

CAC 1–99 → plaque is present

CAC 100–299 → substantially higher risk

CAC ≥300 → high cardiovascular risk

In MESA, compared with CAC 0, a score >300 was associated with roughly 4.5× the risk of an ASCVD event over approximately 10 years.

And the 2026 guidelines now recognize that people with CAC ≥300 can have event rates comparable to some patients with established cardiovascular disease.

One important caveat:

A calcium score of ZERO does not mean zero risk or guarantee that your arteries are completely free of plaque. CAC primarily detects calcified plaque.

The real reason I order this test isn’t simply to find out your number.

👉 It’s to determine whether hidden coronary atherosclerosis is already present—and whether that information should change how aggressively we prevent your first heart attack.

Save this and discuss whether CAC testing makes sense for YOU with your physician.

🚶‍♀️ Just a 10-minute walk after your meals can do more for your heart than most people realize. ❤️

It can help:

✅ Reduce the post-meal sugar spike

✅ Improve insulin sensitivity

✅ Lower triglyceride buildup over time

✅ Support healthy blood pressure

✅ Improve circulation

✅ Reduce the risk of heart disease when done consistently

You don’t need a gym. You don’t need an hour.

Just walk after eating. Every meal is a new opportunity to protect your heart.

💬 Do you already walk after meals, or will you start today?

📌 Save this as a reminder.

📤 Share it with someone who eats and then sits immediately.
