Do you know your toothbrush can get heavily contaminated after use? .

After use, the bacteria harbor on the moist bristles causing colonization and leading to infection. .

Hence regular disinfection of your toothbrush is necessary. .

Below are the necessary steps to do so : . - The usage of toothpaste on the toothbrush helps in reduction of the bacterial load. . - Placing the toothbrush in Listerine for a period of 20 minutes after usage helps in decontamination. . - Household decontamination
Vinegar, Lime & Salt water have proven to help. . - 1% Sodium hypochlorite is good toothbrush disinfectant. . - 3% hydrogen peroxide also shows 100% results by immersion of toothbrush for 30 minutes followed by air drying. This is economical also. . - The best method is overnight immersion of the toothbrush in Chlorhexidine solutions, has proven to work better than Listerine. .

So use one of these techniques to keep your toothbrush away from bacteria and avoid re-infection and cross-infection of your mouth & body! .

During Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, oral health may be disregarded sometimes. This post is to help you maintain commendable oral hygiene, by paying attention to simple things before and after breaking your fast. . - Brushing after sehri/ suhoor/ pre dawn meal is essential as it takes away all food deposits on your teeth that can form an environment for your bacteria to thrive thus leading to decay of your teeth. . - Have fiber rich food at the time of breaking your fast because during fasting the pH of your saliva decreases, making it acidic that further cause dental decay. Hence, having fiber rich food can deposit minerals onto your teeth thereby reversing the decay process. . - Patients suffering from gum disease should subject themselves to a professional cleaning before the start of Ramzan therefore not protecting from making it worse during the period of Ramzan. . - Chlorhexidine mouthwash can be used during Ramzan in the ratio of 1:1, 30 minutes after brushing, thus avoiding dryness of mouth or oral malodor. This can be performed especially in diabetic patients and those who are periodontally compromised. . - Use of a fluoridated toothpaste twice daily will help in prevention of the decay process. . - Those using dentures, should clean the dentures well using various products such as denture cleaning tablets. Use of unclean dentures can cause bad odour and also lead to a variety of other oral health problems. . - Use of a powered toothbrush can also be incorporated during this period for more effective cleaning. .

Enjoy the best of oral health during this auspicious month. Ramadan Kareem. ✨

If you're a dog lover/owner, taking care of your dog's teeth is an essential part of the overall health and wellness. . .
If you haven't been taking care of your dog's teeth yet, it's time to BEGIN!!! . .
Start slowly by RUBBING YOUR FINGER against your dog's teeth. It will take time for your dog to get used to this process. . . After a couple of weeks, you can slowly introduce a doggie toothbrush or normal toothbrush if your dog is cooperative. . .
The next step would be to start using a toothpaste that's dog friendly and recommended by your veterinary doctor. Please do not use normal human toothpaste, as your dog will not be cooperative to spit it out. Human toothpaste contains certain materials that could cause gastric irritation if ingested by your dog. . .
DIET - Diet plays a very important role in your dog's oral health. A good long chew will help in removing away a part of the plaque and dirt. Choices will include Rawhider and Knuclebone ( softer than normal bone). Hard items may lead to fracture of teeth. . . Professional dental cleaning at the veterinary office is as important. . .
Brushing technique:
Move your dog's lips aside, start with the teeth that are visible and brush it using your finger / toothbrush. CIRCULAR MOTION works best. Gradually increase the number of teeth. Remember to brush along the gum line. Reapply the toothpaste if required.Once he's used to this process, you can start cleaning the back of his teeth and then proceed with cleaning his gums.
Until your dog gets used to the toothbrush, alternatives such as canine dental pad or a simple gauze can be used to clean their teeth & gums. . .
Conclude the process with a reward such as play, affection even if it didn't go well. This positive association will help in convincing him better the next time. . .
Don't force your dog. Training your dog towards taking care of their teeth is a slow process, forcing them will have a negative effect and they will repel the process. .
