“This time, it feels different,” she told her friend.
He seemed caring, attentive, and emotionally available. She finally believed she had found the relationship she had always wanted.
But slowly, familiar feelings returned.
She began explaining herself repeatedly.
She stayed silent to avoid arguments.
She ignored the discomfort she felt when her emotions were dismissed.
And once again, she was giving more while receiving less.
One evening, after apologising for something that wasn’t her fault, she suddenly paused.
The person was different—but the way she felt was painfully familiar:
Unheard. Confused. Anxious. Not enough.
She wondered:
“Why does every relationship eventually make me feel this way?”
Sometimes, we may unknowingly choose what feels emotionally familiar—even when it is painful. Old fears, unmet needs, beliefs about love, and weak boundaries can influence whom we trust, what we tolerate, and how long we remain.
This does not mean another person’s harmful behaviour is your fault.
It means your healing can help you recognise warning signs earlier, trust your feelings, express your needs, and choose relationships from self-worth rather than fear.
The goal is not to blame yourself for the past.
It is to understand yourself deeply enough to choose differently in the future.
Different person. Different story.
This time, you can create a different ending.
