Diabetes in pregnancy known as gestational diabetes is considered as - highrisk pregnancy ,as the complications it can cause to baby and the mother. This happens due to hormone insulin which counters blood sugar ,will not be able to work well because of the pregnancy hormones

Usually ,diabetes starts at 5th month of pregnancy and it goes away after delivery. But having diabetes means that the mother may develop diabetes at later age in her life

It comes with no symptoms, so the doctor will routinely screen for diabetes early in pregnancy and also at 5th month . If you have diabetes before pregnancy you must have blood sugar under control before concieving . It is mandatory to know if you have these risk factors, and if so, get an appointment with your doctor to plan pregnancy

Sticking on to healthy diet, walking/ regular exercise and maintaining appropriate weight for your height will prevent development of full blown diabetes.
