CLINICAL SOCIETY MEETING REPORT TOPIC: "DENTAL STAINS"

On 21st May 2026, the Department Of Pediatric And Preventive Dentistry hosted a Clinical Society Meeting at the R.V.S. Smt. Padmavathi Ammal Auditorium. The postgraduate students delivered a comprehensive presentation on "Dental Stains", covering the etiology, classification, clinical features, and treatment approaches associated with the condition.
The session further encompassed a review of the literature along with current concepts in treatment planning. A series of detailed case reports were presented, complemented by clinical scenarios and case-based discussions designed to illustrate the decision-making process in selecting appropriate treatment plans.
The meeting concluded with an engaging interactive discussion, which effectively enhanced the participants' practical understanding of the concepts surrounding dental stains.

WORLD ORTHODONTIC HEALTH DAY
The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics at RVS Dental College & Hospital organized a vibrant celebration in connection with World Orthodontic Health Day from 9th May to 15th May 2026. The programme aimed to create awareness about the importance of orthodontics beyond esthetics and encouraged active participation from undergraduate students, postgraduate students, CRRIs, and faculty members.
The event featured a series of academic, creative, and interactive activities under the theme “Beyond Straight Smiles.” Competitions such as wire bending, poster presentation, reels creation, and orthodontic quiz were conducted to enhance students’ knowledge, creativity, and clinical interest in orthodontics.
On 15thmay guest lectures are also given by distinguished orthodontists. Dr. Divya Dilipkumar delivered a lecture on “Beyond Straight Teeth,” highlighting the broader role of orthodontics in oral health and patient well-being. Dr. Hanumanth S spoke on “Orthodontics Beyond Esthetics,” emphasizing the functional and interdisciplinary aspects of orthodontic treatment.
The formal programme was conducted at SMT Padmavathy Ammal Memorial Auditorium and included inauguration, prayer song, principal’s address, prize distribution, guest lectures, and vote of thanks. The event was successfully organized under the guidance of the principal, head of the department, faculty members, and organizing team of the Department of Orthodontics.

OSSEOINTEGRATION DAY CELEBRATION
The celebration of Osseointegration Day was conducted with academic rigor and clinical excellence by the Department of Implant Dentistry at RVS Dental College and Hospital, Coimbatore. Organised in prestigious association with the Indian Association of Oral Implantologists (IAOI), the multi-tiered scientific program took place on May 7th, 2026. The sessions commenced at 09:30 AM at the S.M.T Padmavathiammal Hall, serving specialized knowledge and practical training among the faculty, postgraduates, and undergraduates of the institution.
The primary focus of this intensive scientific session was a comprehensive lecture and hands-on workshop titled "GBR in Implant Practice - Techniques and Refinement." To deliver this critical academic module, the department invited renowned speaker Dr. Swaminathan, MDS., PhD (Periodontist & Implantologist), who provided deep insights into the surgical nuances of Guided Bone Regeneration and socket preservation. The entire program was organized under the administrative leadership and with the blessings of Dr. K. V. Kupusamy (Chairman, R.V.S Group of Institutions) and Dr. Vijay.V.K., MDS., MBA(HM), FAID., Dip(icoi)., MFDS RCPS(UK). (Director cm PRINCIPAL).
The clinical ex*****on and logistical management of the event were carried out under the meticulous supervision of Dr. Sabarinathan. S, MDS., Dip IBP (Professor & HOD, Dept. of Implant Dentistry) and Dr. Dheraj, MDS at the ELITE Centre, R.V.S. DCH.
The academic day was meticulously partitioned to balance theoretical knowledge, competitive student forums, and high fidelity practical training. The day initiated with an official inaugural ceremony welcoming the guest speaker, dignitaries, and registered delegates. Dr. Swaminathan delivered an advanced lecture detailing biological principles, material selection, and technique refinement in Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR). Lunch Break: Provided for all registered participants and faculty delegates.
Hands-On Surgical Workshop: A practical, rigorous session where delegates executed socket preservation and GBR protocols utilizing animal jaw models under direct master supervision. Following the completion of the hands-on assessments and the defense of the competitive rounds, due recognitions and academic validations were awarded to the participating teams. This report serves as an official record of the proceedings, highlighting the department's ongoing efforts to integrate advanced implantology, biological bone grafting refinements, and digital-ready patient education models into contemporary clinical training.

GUM HEALTH DAY 2026

The Department of Periodontology, in collaboration with ISPI and Group Pharmaceuticals Ltd, celebrated Gum Health Day 2026 on May 12 with activities focused on patient education and student participation. The program featured a selfie booth for interactive engagement, along with pamphlet distribution and toothpaste samples generously provided by Omnident to promote preventive oral hygiene. Patients received these materials with guidance on proper usage, reinforcing daily gum care.
The department also conducted oral hygiene education through live demonstrations and short videos, teaching correct brushing, interdental cleaning, and use of adjuncts like floss and rinses. Students further extended the campaign through an awareness rally across the campus and nearby community areas, carrying placards and engaging the public with slogans on gum health.
Overall, the celebration effectively combined outreach, education, and student involvement, strengthening the department’s commitment to periodontal awareness.

TOPIC: “Fix the Bone or Trust the Biology – Open vs Closed Reduction in Condylar Fractures”

On 09.04.2026, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery conducted a clinical Society Meeting at R.V.S Smt Padmavathi Ammal auditorium, where the postgraduate students presented on the topic “Fix the Bone or Trust the Biology – Open vs Closed Reduction in Condylar Fractures”. The presentation highlighted the etiology, classification, clinical features, and diagnostic approaches of condylar fractures. A detailed comparison between open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) and closed reduction was provided, emphasizing their indications, advantages, limitations, and potential complications. Evidence-based guidelines and current concepts in treatment planning were also discussed. Clinical scenarios and case-based discussions were incorporated to illustrate decision-making in choosing between surgical and conservative approaches. The session concluded with an interactive discussion enhancing participants practical understanding of the concepts of condylar fracture management.

INTER DISCIPLINARY MEET
Topic : Hidden Evidence – Forensic Dentistry: An Overview was conducted on 29th April 2026 at 2:00 PM in PadmavathyAmmal SMT Hall by the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, with the participation of internsAjeeth KA ,Alex Pandiyan A , Anne Valenteena I, Baby Shaakila S and postgraduate students. The session focused on various aspects of forensic odontology relevant to dental practice and medico-legal investigations. The program began with an introduction to forensic dentistry, presented by interns, highlighting its role in human identification and legal cases. This was followed by a presentation on bite mark analysis by Dr. Aafirin, III year postgraduate, who explained the techniques involved in the collection of bite mark evidence and emphasized its importance in criminal investigations. Cheiloscopy and rugoscopy were presented by Dr. Svedha, II-year postgraduate, discussing the uniqueness of lip prints and palatal rugae as reliable forensic tools.The topic of child abuse and neglect was presented by Dr. Indhu, II year postgraduate, stressing the importance of early identification and the responsibility of pediatric dentists in reporting such cases. The meeting also included a brief discussion on the scope of forensic odontology after BDS, outlining potential career opportunities in the field.At the end of the session, a 10-minute interactive segment was conducted for questions and knowledge sharing was done by Dr.Vijay V.K Principal cm Director shares his insights about the child neglect and abuse and how to prevent it ,Dr.Arun HOD of prosthodontics shared his insights on POSHand POSCO act , Dr.Umesh HOD of PHD questioned about the mass disaster management at state level and the initiatives taken by the government for such incidents ,which facilitated better understanding and active participation among the attendees , Overall, the session was informative and enhanced the understanding of the interdisciplinary role of dentistry in forensic science conducted by the department of pediatric and preventive dentistry Dr.Nagendran , Dr.Sravanthi sistla , Dr.Karthika , Dr.Sharmila , Dr.Anjugam , Dr.Sangeetha and Dr.Deepikaa.

National Oral Medicine and Radiology Day Celebration
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology commemorated National Oral Medicine and Radiology Day with a series of academic and outreach activities aimed at enhancing awareness, early diagnosis, and interdisciplinary understanding of oral health.
As part of the celebration, an outreach program was conducted through active participation in an oral screening and treatment camp held on 17 April 2026. A total of 120 patients were screened. The camp primarily focused on oral cancer screening, during which several cases of potentially malignant disorders were identified. All patients undervent oral prophylaxis. A significant proportion of the participants reported to***co chewing habits, emphasizing the continued need for public education and preventive strategies in this area.
In addition to the clinical outreach, students of the department actively engaged in academic competitions organized by the National IAOMR Academy. The participation included 25 poster presentations, 4 reels, and 1 video submission, reflecting the enthusiasm and creativity of the students in promoting oral health awareness through digital and academic platforms.
To further enrich academic learning, an online live webinar was conducted on 29 April 2026 under the theme “Decoding Systemic Health through Oral Signs.” The program witnessed active participation from approximately 150 undergraduate students and faculty members.
The webinar featured distinguished speakers:
• Dr. J. Venkatesh, Associate Professor, Government Dental College, Cuddalore, who delivered a lecture on “Radiology as Visual Art – Training the Diagnostic Eye,” highlighting the importance of interpretative skills in radiographic diagnosis.
• Dr. B. Niveditha, Reader, Madha Dental College and Hospital, Kundrathur, who spoke on “Oral Clues to Hematological Disorders – What the Mouth Reveals About Blood,” emphasizing the role of oral manifestations in systemic disease detection.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Vijay V. K., Director cm Principal, and with the support and blessings of Dr. K. V. Kuppusamy, Chairman.The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sasirekha, Professor and Head, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology. Dr. Lakshminrusimhan, Reader, provided an introduction to the speakers. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sowmya, Senior Lecturer.
E-certificates were presented to the speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions, along with token of appreciation.
Overall, the celebration successfully integrated community outreach, student engagement, and academic enrichment, reinforcing the pivotal role of Oral Medicine and Radiology in early diagnosis and comprehensive patient care.
