Independence Day at Nankem Hospital

Every Independence Day at Nankem has its traditions.

We hoist the national flag.
We take the National Pledge.
And our team begins the year in their new uniforms.

But Independence Day is also a day to reflect on what freedom really means.

This year, Dr. Anusuya Chandrashekar reflected on a thought attributed to Mahatma Gandhi — that India would truly be free when women could walk safely and without fear at night.

We have gained freedom from colonial rule. But there are other freedoms we are still striving for — freedom from fear, oppression, corruption and bribery; the freedom to live with dignity, safety and equality.

Perhaps Independence is not something we simply celebrate once a year.

It is something we continue to work towards.

Happy Independence Day from all of us at Nankem. 🇮🇳
