Today, on International Yoga Day, let's talk about yoga from a brain health perspective.

As a neurologist, I often see patients suffering from migraine, stress-related headaches, sleep disturbances, anxiety, neck pain, back pain, and even recovery after stroke. While medicines are important, lifestyle practices also play a crucial role in maintaining neurological health.

Yoga is more than just physical exercise. It combines movement, breathing, and mindfulness. Regular practice can help reduce stress hormones, improve sleep quality, enhance concentration, and promote emotional well-being.

Scientific studies suggest that yoga may help reduce the frequency of migraine attacks, improve balance and flexibility, decrease chronic pain, and support overall brain health.

However, yoga is not a substitute for medical treatment. It should be viewed as a valuable complement to evidence-based medical care.

Even 20–30 minutes of yoga and breathing exercises daily can be a meaningful step toward a healthier brain and a healthier life.

This International Yoga Day, invest a few minutes in your health. Your brain will thank you for it.

Stroke remains one of the leading causes of disability and death, and timely recognition, rapid referral, and evidence-based management can significantly improve patient outcomes. The enthusiastic participation and insightful discussions during the session reflected the collective commitment of our medical community towards improving stroke care.

I sincerely thank the organizers and all participating doctors for their warm hospitality and engaging academic interaction.

Honoured to be invited by the Indian Medical Association as a speaker on "Management of Vertigo in Clinical Practice: Beyond Symptom Control to Functional Recovery."
It was a privilege to interact with both senior and young doctors and discuss practical approaches to vertigo management, including accurate diagnosis, differentiation of peripheral and central causes, vestibular rehabilitation, and strategies aimed at restoring functional recovery rather than merely controlling symptoms.

🩵 International Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day

Tourette Syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by repetitive, involuntary movements and vocalizations known as tics.

Common tics may include:
✔ Excessive blinking
✔ Facial movements
✔ Shoulder shrugging
✔ Throat clearing
✔ Sniffing sounds
✔ Repetitive vocalizations

One of the biggest misconceptions is that all people with Tourette Syndrome involuntarily use offensive language. In reality, this occurs in only a small minority of patients.

Tourette Syndrome is not a behavioral problem or a sign of poor discipline. It is a recognized neurological condition that often begins during childhood and may be associated with ADHD, OCD, anxiety, or learning difficulties.

With proper understanding, support, and medical care, many individuals with Tourette Syndrome can lead successful and fulfilling lives.

Let us replace stigma with awareness and understanding.
