🌸 Dermoid Cyst: Everything You Need to Know 🌸
A dermoid cyst is a common, usually benign (non-cancerous) ovarian cyst that develops from germ cells. Although it may sound alarming, early diagnosis and the right treatment can lead to an excellent recovery.
✨ Why does it happen?
• Develops from germ cells present from birth
• May contain hair, skin, fat, teeth, or bone
• Not caused by diet, lifestyle, infection, or poor hygiene
• The exact cause of its growth is still unknown
⚠️ Common symptoms:
• Pelvic or lower abdominal pain
• Feeling of heaviness or fullness in the abdomen
• Sudden severe pain if the cyst twists (ovarian torsion)
• Sometimes, there are no symptoms, and it is detected during a routine ultrasound
đź’™ Treatment:
• Small, symptom-free cysts may only need regular monitoring.
• Larger or painful cysts are usually treated with laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, which helps preserve healthy ovarian tissue whenever possible.
âś… The good news is that most dermoid cysts are benign, and with timely diagnosis and treatment, the outcomes are excellent.
If you’re experiencing persistent pelvic pain or have been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst, consult a gynecologist for the right evaluation and treatment.
