Once a person asked Baba Bulleh Shah how he could be happy even though he was living in so much poverty... his reply:

Chadhde sooraj dhalde dekhe
Bujhde deeve balde dekhe
Heere da koi mul na jaane
Khote sikke chalde dekhe
Jina da na jag te koee,
O vee putar palde dekhe.
Usdee rehamat de naal bande
Paani utte chalde dekhe!
Loki kainde daal nai galdee,
Main te pathar galde dekhe.
Jinha ne kadar na keetee rab dee,
Hath khaalee o malde dekhe …
Kai pairaan to nange phirade,
Sir te labhade chhaavaan,
Mainu daata sab kuchh ditta,
Kyon na shukar manaavaan!
