Live on Zee Business today, discussing the newly released WHO–IARC Global Status Report on Cancer 2026 and what it means for India.

The numbers are stark: 20.6 million new cancer cases and nearly 10 million deaths globally every year, projected to touch ~35 million cases by 2050 without urgent action.

I spoke on three things we can't afford to ignore:

🔹 Equity in healthcare — the report shows stark gaps in outcomes; 87% five-year survival for breast cancer in high-income countries vs just 42% in low-income ones. Access to timely, affordable care must reach every patient, not just a privileged few.

🔹 Screening — early detection saves lives and cuts treatment costs and morbidity. Regular screening for breast, cervical, and oral cancers remains one of our most powerful tools, yet uptake is still far too low.

🔹 Prevention — to***co control, HPV/Hepatitis B vaccination, healthier lifestyles, and reducing air pollution exposure can meaningfully bend this curve. Global to***co use is already down 27% since 2010 — proof that sustained public health action works.

Had the opportunity to speak on CNBC about the new WHO–IARC Global Status Report on Cancer 2026 🎥

Key numbers: 20.6 million new cancer cases and nearly 10 million deaths every year worldwide — and without stronger action, this could rise to 35 million cases annually by 2050. In India, 1 in 10 people is expected to develop cancer in their lifetime.

Why the rise? I spoke about:
🔹 Rising obesity, physical inactivity & unhealthy diets
🔹 Air pollution
🔹 Infection-related cancers (HPV, Hepatitis B/C, H. pylori)
🔹 An ageing population
🔹 Better screening picking up more cases

The good news — to***co use is down 27% since 2010, and more countries than ever have national cancer control plans. Progress is happening, just not fast enough.

On the occasion of World Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day, observed on 8th May 2026, it is imperative to address the challenges posed by ovarian cancer, a disease often characterized by insidious symptoms.

In our practice , We frequently encounter cases where nonspecific symptoms—such as abdominal bloating, pelvic discomfort, or altered bowel habits—are overlooked until advanced stages. Enhanced awareness and targeted screening hold the potential to significantly improve prognosis, particularly among high-risk populations.

I am pleased to share my recently published article, which examines contemporary approaches to ovarian cancer prevention, symptom recognition, and integrated therapeutic modalities, including precision radiation techniques such as stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) in metastatic scenarios .
