Potty training is a developmental milestone that usually happens between 18 months and 3 years, though every child is different. The best results usually come when a child shows signs of readiness rather than training by age alone.

Signs your child may be ready

Look for several of these signs together:

* Stays dry for 2+ hours
* Shows interest in the toilet or underwear
* Tells you when they are wet or dirty
* Can pull pants up and down
* Follows simple instructions
* Hides to p**p or recognizes the urge
* Dislikes dirty diapers

When to talk to a pediatrician

Consider medical advice if:

* Your child is over 4 and making no progress
* Painful urination or severe constipation
* Extreme fear/anxiety around toileting
* Sudden regression after being fully trained
