🫁 June is LAM Awareness Month
Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare lung condition that mainly affects women in early and middle adulthood. It has been reported in men, but this is extremely rare.
It is estimated that 3 to 5 out of every 1 million women develop LAM.
Who it Affects: Almost exclusively women, usually diagnosed between puberty and menopause (average age ≈ 33).
Pathology: Abnormal "LAM cells" spread through the body, growing in the lungs, lymphatic system, and kidneys.Lung Destruction: LAM cells form thin-walled cysts in the lungs, reducing oxygen transfer and destroying tissue.
Main Symptoms: Progressive shortness of breath (dyspnea), chronic cough, chest pain, and fatigue.
