If stress alone could cause autoimmune disease…
almost every living person would have one.
Stress may influence immunity.
It may worsen symptoms.
It may affect how disease is experienced.
But autoimmune diseases are far more complex than a single emotion or stressful phase.
🧬 Genetics
🌸 Hormones
🦠 Environment
🛡️ Immune dysregulation
⚡ Multiple biological pathways

Many patients come to OPD carrying repeated antibody reports.

And some ask:
“Doctor, should we repeat all the antibodies again?”

Honestly, it is a very understandable question.

Because autoimmune diseases feel unpredictable,
and repeating tests often feels reassuring.

But one important thing medical literature repeatedly reminds us:

Antibody values should never be interpreted without clinical history.

Because good rheumatology is not just:
“Look at the number.”

It is understanding:
✔ symptoms
✔ examination findings
✔ organ involvement
✔ disease trend
✔ treatment response
✔ the patient’s overall clinical story

Sometimes antibodies remain positive while disease is stable.
Sometimes symptoms change while reports barely move.

That is why clinical history often matters far more than one isolated antibody value.

Because medicine is not only lab interpretation.

It is clinical context interpretation.

Why repeating autoimmune antibody tests is not always necessary — understanding the importance of clinical history, disease activity, and context in rheumatology.

Immunosuppression is not simply about using the “strongest medicine.”

Treatment decisions in autoimmune disease are individualized and may depend on:
• disease severity
• organ involvement
• pregnancy planning
• infections/comorbidities
• lifestyle & work routine
• affordability & monitoring needs

The goal is:
✔ control disease activity
✔ prevent organ damage
✔ maintain quality of life
✔ minimize side effects

Because good treatment should not only be scientifically correct —
it should also be practical, humane, and personalized.

Fatigue in autoimmune disease is real.
Not just “being tired.”
Not laziness.
Not lack of motivation.
For many patients with Sjögren’s syndrome and other autoimmune diseases, fatigue can affect:
movement
concentration
emotions
relationships
work
daily functioning
The recent FESSONA study highlights something important:
fatigue management may need more than medicines alone.
Adapted physical activity, pacing, rehabilitation, sleep, stress management, and learning how to work with the body — all matter.
Sometimes healing is not about pushing harder.
It is about building sustainable energy, little by little. 🌿

Most people think these medicines just “control disease.”
But the truth is—
they also change how your body fights infections.
Steroids. DMARDs. Biologics.
Each works differently…
but together, they can increase infection risk.
That doesn’t mean you should fear treatment.
It means you should understand it.
✔ Screen before starting
✔ Protect yourself daily
✔ Recognize early symptoms
✔ Act early
Because in autoimmune diseases,
awareness is your biggest protection.
Stay informed. Stay safe. 💚🙏

Sjögren’s is often seen as “just dryness.”
But it is much more than that.
It’s a systemic autoimmune condition
that can affect nerves, lungs, kidneys,
and overall quality of life.
Understanding it early
can make a difference.
Here’s an A–Z glossary
to help you understand it better.

Fatigue in Sjögren’s Syndrome
is often misunderstood.
It’s not just dryness.
It’s not just “feeling tired.”
And it doesn’t always improve
with rest alone.

Many patients say—
“I feel exhausted, even when everything looks okay.”
And that is real.
This fatigue is:
Biological.
Layered.
Often invisible.
It may not match your reports.
It may not show in your tests.
But it still affects
your everyday life.

What can help?
Small, consistent steps:
• Treat underlying causes (anemia, thyroid, deficiencies)
• Better disease control
• Pacing activities (avoiding crashes)
• Gentle, regular movement
• Improving sleep quality
No single fix.
But a better way to live with it.

Health is not just about reports and numbers.
It’s about the choices you make every day—
to trust, to continue, to take that next step.

you’re not alone in this

Some illnesses don’t ask for attention.
They just… stay. Quietly.
Sjögren’s is one of them.
Not just dry eyes.
Not just dry mouth.
But fatigue that lingers even after rest.
A mind that slows down mid-sentence.
A body that looks fine… but isn’t.
As a rheumatologist, I see it every day.
As someone living it, I understand it differently.
I’ve learned that
symptoms don’t always match severity.
And sometimes, the hardest part
is not the disease—
but being unseen in it.
This April, for Sjögren’s Awareness Month,
just pause a little longer when someone says
“I’m tired.”
Maybe… they really are.
