🚨 A common mistake parents make after cochlear implant!

When a child starts saying a few words after the implant, parents may feel that therapy is no longer needed and stop it. ❌

But a few words are just the beginning! 🗣️
Continued speech therapy and Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) help the child develop better listening, understanding, vocabulary, pronunciation, and communication skills.

✨ Don’t stop therapy when progress begins—support your child until they reach their full communication potential.

📲 You can continue your child’s therapy from the comfort of home with AWAZZ Online Speech & Language Therapy.

Acquired Stuttering: When fluency changes suddenly

Acquired stuttering is a type of stuttering that begins after a brain injury, neurological condition, emotional trauma, or certain medications. Unlike developmental stuttering, it starts later in life and should never be ignored.

🚩 Common signs:
• Repetition of sounds, words, or phrases
• Prolonged sounds
• Speech blocks
• Sudden difficulty speaking fluently
• May appear after a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or another neurological event

💬 Early evaluation by a speech-language therapist can help identify the cause and develop the right treatment plan.

If you or someone you know experiences sudden changes in speech fluency, seek professional assessment as soon as possible.

🗣️ What is Misarticulation?

Misarticulation is a speech sound disorder in which a person produces one or more speech sounds incorrectly, making their speech difficult to understand.

There are 4 main types of misarticulation:
🔹 Substitution – One sound is replaced with another (e.g., “tat” instead of “cat”).
🔹 Omission – A sound is left out (e.g., “ca” instead of “cat”).
🔹 Distortion – A sound is produced incorrectly but still resembles the target sound (commonly seen with /s/ or /r/).
🔹 Addition – An extra sound is added to a word (e.g., “buhlack” instead of “black”).

✨ Early identification and speech therapy can help improve speech clarity and confidence.

Every child deserves to know how to stay safe—even if they cannot speak. ❤️

A child who is non-verbal can still learn the difference between good touch and bad touch through visuals, gestures, role play, and alternative communication methods.

As parents and caregivers, it is our responsibility to teach body safety early. Don’t wait for a child to start talking—safety education cannot wait.

💛 Teach them:
✔️ Private body parts
✔️ The “NO” sign
✔️ How to move away
✔️ How to ask for help using pictures, gestures, or AAC
✔️ Trusted adults they can always go to

Remember: Communication is not only through words. Every child has the right to be heard and protected.

Stuttering is not a sign of low intelligence. Early identification and the right guidance can improve confidence and communication. If you notice frequent repetitions, blocks, or your child is becoming frustrated while speaking, seek help from a qualified speech-language therapist.
