🦵 Ever wondered what actually cushions your knee every time you walk, run, jump, or climb stairs?
Meet the meniscus—one of the most important structures in your knee joint.
The meniscus is a C-shaped piece of cartilage that sits between the thigh bone (femur) and shin bone (tibia). Each knee has two menisci: the medial meniscus on the inside and the lateral meniscus on the outside.
Think of it as your knee’s natural shock absorber.
Its key functions include:
✔️ Absorbing impact during daily activities
✔️ Distributing weight evenly across the knee joint
✔️ Improving joint stability
✔️ Protecting the cartilage from excessive wear and tear
✔️ Allowing smooth and pain-free movement
When the meniscus is injured or torn, these functions can be compromised, leading to symptoms such as:
🔹 Knee pain
🔹 Swelling
🔹 Clicking or popping sensations
🔹 Locking or catching of the knee
🔹 Difficulty bending or straightening the leg
Meniscus tears can occur during sports, sudden twisting movements, or even due to age-related degeneration.
The good news? Not every meniscus tear requires surgery. Treatment depends on factors such as the type of tear, its location, the patient’s age, activity level, and symptoms.
Understanding your knee anatomy is the first step toward protecting it.
Watch this reel to learn more about the meniscus and why it plays such a crucial role in keeping your knees healthy and active.

Social media has the power to connect people with the right medical care — no matter how far they are.

This patient, a hardworking milkman from a remote area, spends his days taking care of cows, collecting milk, and doing physically demanding work to support his family. During work on a terrace, he unfortunately suffered a severe fall that caused a painful elbow dislocation, making it difficult for him to even move his arm properly.

Living in a remote location, finding the right orthopedic specialist quickly could have been challenging. But through social media and online awareness, he discovered Kailash Hospital and reached out to us for treatment.

When he came to Kailash Hospital, our orthopedic team immediately evaluated the injury and planned the best course of treatment. After successful surgery and proper rehabilitation, his recovery has been smooth and encouraging. Today, seeing him regain mobility and return toward his normal routine is truly rewarding for all of us.

Stories like these show how digital platforms and social media are not just about information — they are helping patients from distant areas connect with advanced healthcare, expert doctors, and timely treatment when they need it the most.

As an orthopedic surgeon, helping hardworking individuals recover and get back to their livelihood is always deeply meaningful. At Kailash Hospital, we remain committed to delivering advanced orthopedic and trauma care with compassion, precision, and trust.

Lower leg pain during running or sports activity is often dismissed as “just shin pain” — but not all pain is the same.

Two of the most common causes are **shin splints** and **stress fractures**. While they may feel similar initially, the severity, treatment, and recovery process are completely different. 🦴🏃‍♂️

✅ **Shin Splints** usually cause a dull, aching pain along the shin bone, especially during or after exercise. They are commonly linked to overtraining, improper footwear, sudden increase in activity, or running on hard surfaces.

⚠️ **Stress Fractures**, on the other hand, are tiny cracks in the bone caused by repetitive stress and overuse. The pain is more localized, sharper, and often worsens even while walking or at rest. Ignoring it can lead to more serious injury and prolonged recovery.

Early diagnosis is extremely important for athletes, runners, gym-goers, and active individuals. Continuing activity without proper evaluation may worsen the condition and delay healing.

If you experience persistent shin pain, swelling, tenderness, or difficulty bearing weight, don’t ignore the signs. A proper orthopaedic assessment can help identify the exact cause and guide the right treatment plan for safe recovery and return to activity.

A young food delivery worker was brought in after a severe road traffic accident with a crush injury to his leg—an injury that can very quickly progress to permanent damage or even amputation if not treated urgently. What made the difference here was that he reached us within the golden hour—the critical first hour after trauma when prompt medical care significantly improves the chances of saving life and limb.

On arrival, the leg showed signs of severe swelling and compromised blood flow.
Immediate steps were taken:
-Stabilization of the patient
-Urgent fracture fixation to align and support the bone
-A fasciotomy procedure to relieve dangerously high pressure within the muscle compartments and restore circulation

Without this timely intervention, the rising pressure could have led to muscle death, nerve damage, and ultimately loss of the limb.

This successful outcome was not just medical—it was a result of seamless teamwork. We are especially grateful to the Delhi Police and ambulance services for their rapid response and swift transport, ensuring the patient received care within that crucial golden window.

This case also highlights a concerning reality—the increasing vulnerability of food and grocery delivery personnel. Under pressure to meet tight timelines, they are frequently exposed to road risks, and many incidents unfortunately involve hit-and-run situations.

Fortunately, in this case, because of timely action and coordinated care, the patient’s leg was saved—and with it, his ability to continue working and supporting himself.

Takeaway:
In trauma care, minutes matter. The golden hour is not just a concept—it is often the difference between recovery and lifelong disability.
