About Endocrinology

nology is a branch of medicine that concerns the study of hormones and its disorders. The endocrine disorders are a varied group of diseases that usually occur due to under functioning or over functioning of these glands. Diabetes, the most common endocrine disorder encountered in clinical practice, occurs due to decreased secretion of insulin, a hormone produced from pancreas, an endocrine gland. The common endocrine disorders are the following.
1. Thyroid disorders- hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, goitre, thyroid cancers
3. Obesity
4. Sexual disorders, erectile dysfunction, hypogonadism & reproductive endocrinology
5. Male infertility
6. Hirsutism (Excessive facial or body hair in females)
7. Polycystic o***y disease (PCOD or PCOS) and other female endocrine disorders
8. Disorders of growth – Short Stature, Growth hormone deficiency & Growth hormone excess
9. Delayed & premature puberty (delayed or early development of various secondary sexual characters in boys or girls)
10. Osteoporosis (low bone density)
11. Metabolic bone diseases - Vitamin D deficiency, Rickets, Osteomalacia, Hyperparathyroidism
12. Pituitary disorders - pituitary tumors, raised pituitary hormone levels (e.g. Prolactin, GH, etc.), deficiency of pituitary hormones, diabetes insipidus
13. Adrenal disorders - Adrenal tumors, Cushing’s syndrome, Pheochromocytoma, adrenal failure
14. Disorder of Sexual Development - Small p***s, hidden te**is, ge***al ambiguity, gynecomastia (development of breast tissue in males), Turner’s syndrome, Klinefelter’s syndrome

Dr. Deepak Khandelwal
Dr. Deepak Khandelwal is distinguished Endocrinologist in Delhi/NCR, who deals with hormonal diseases like Diabetes, Thyroid, Obesity, Growth disorders, PCOD, sexual disorders, osteoporosis, etc. Dr. Khandelwal has a distinguished academic profile. He is MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. Subsequently, he has done MD in Medicine & DM in Endocrinology from Nation’s most premier medical institute, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. During his 7 years of clinical experience at AIIMS, he had an opportunity to have a vast experience in management of difficult and challenging cases of diabetes, thyroid and other hormonal disorders. He also holds Specialty Certificate Endocrinology & Diabetes from Royal College, UK and Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. He has published more than 130 International and National papers on various aspects of Endocrinology in various journals and textbooks. He has actively been involved as Clinical researcher in more than 20 Clinical trials as Principle Investigator. He has received several awards including Torrent Young Scholar Award Endocrinology, for best DM candidate with a cash prize of One Lakh Rupees, Osler Award for best oral paper presentation in 40th Endocrine society of India Conference (With a Gold Medal), both 1st and 2nd prize in Award for Excellence in Endocrine writing, in IJEM awards at 41st annual Endocrine society of India Conference 2011at Pune, India and 2nd prize in Award for Excellence in Endocrine writing, in IJEM awards at 42nd annual Endocrine society of India Conference 2012 at Kolkata, India. He is regular invited National faculty in various Diabetes/Endocrinology conferences in India and has taken more than 200 lectures on various aspects of Diabetes/Thyroid/Endocrinology in various National forums and conferences. For his excellence in the field he is awarded Times healthcare achievers award 2018 for Best Endocrinologist in Delhi/NCR. He is also awarded prestigious Dr. Anil R Sheth award for the year 2021 from Endocrine Society of India for best young Researcher in the field of Clinical Endocrinology in India.
