This image is showing the actual story behind the dental pain, about which patient is unaware off. Patients enters the dental OPD with the complaint of pain but on examination there is no sign of cavity or any other injury, everything looks absolutely normal but pain, yes pain is there and its there for more than a week, patient took medicines from the nearby chemist those tablets help to subside the pain for few hours and pains comes back again and again.
This picture is showing a hidden caries or you can say cavity on the proximal (surface attached to the next tooth) of the tooth, and the lesion is approaching the pulp (nerves) of the tooth, it all might have started a few months ago but there was no pain at that time. It gradually increased and now causing pain.
Initially the TOOTH might have signaled the patient with some sensitivity for which he took the tooth paste available in the market, Sensitivity to hot/cold/sweet with mild to moderate pain subsides with the medicine in the paste but it can not heal the tooth.
Now when you comes to the doctor,He/she checks into your mouth taps with his instruments here and there, at one point patients just screams out of pain and now dentist asks you for a dental x-ray, he gets confirmation there that your pulp tissue in infected and lesion is already spreaded into the bone. And the next words that are coming out of your dentist's mouth are “We need to start the root canal treatment for this tooth”.
Dentist do not always suggests the Root canal but by the experience they know that where this pain is coming from.
