Maternal mental health is a critical component of overall care during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
Conditions such as postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and, in rare cases, postpartum psychosis can affect women during this time. Research suggests that 1 in 5 women may experience a mental health concern during the perinatal period.
Early identification and support are important. Families can play a key role by noticing changes, offering practical help, encouraging rest, and supporting access to professional care when needed
