Weak legs. Numb foot. She could barely walk. She was 74, and everyone assumed it was just age.

It wasn't.

A disc had collapsed at L3-L4, squeezing both nerves responsible for movement and sensation in her legs. The spinal canal had narrowed so severely there was barely any space left for the nerves to function.

The collapsed disc was removed, freed both compressed nerves, and stabilised the spine with screws and rods.

Weakness improved. Numbness gone. Walking again at 74.

If an elderly parent is developing weakness in the legs or numbness in the feet, please don't assume it is age. It could be the spine. And it could be fixed.

A brain haemorrhage doesn't follow one treatment path. Depending on where the bleed sits, how large it is, and how quickly it's caught, the surgical approach can differ significantly.

Craniotomy opens direct access to remove the clot.

Minimally invasive aspiration works through a small opening with guided precision, reducing trauma to surrounding brain tissue.

Decompressive craniectomy relieves dangerous pressure buildup, giving the brain room to recover.

What stays constant across every case is this: time lost is brain lost.

Recognising the warning signs early and reaching the right specialist fast changes outcomes more than almost anything else.

A head injury serious enough to hospitalise. Brain Bruises.

The question wasn't just what's wrong. It was, do we open the skull, or do we trust the brain to heal?

Dr. Vikas Gupta chose to watch. To wait. To manage without surgery.

Sometimes the most skilled decision a neurosurgeon makes… is knowing when not to operate.

The patient is home today. No surgery. No scalpel. Just the right call at the right time. πŸ™

Every 40 seconds, someone in the world experiences a stroke, yet access to timely, quality neurological care still depends heavily on where a person lives.

This World Brain Day, the World Federation of Neurology's theme, Brain Health and Access for All, puts that gap front and centre. It's not just about medical advancement anymore; it's about making sure that advancement actually reaches every patient, in every region, regardless of resources.

Access to care. Access to treatment. Access to hope. That's what real progress in brain health looks like.

A brain aneurysm doesn't come with a single fix.

Coiling works quietly from within the blood vessel, guiding a catheter to the weak point and sealing it off with fine platinum coils, no open surgery needed.

Clipping takes a more direct route, placing a tiny clip at the base of the aneurysm during surgery to cut it off from blood flow for good.

Both are proven, both save lives, and the right one depends entirely on the aneurysm itself.

The goal is always the same: protect the brain, choose what fits the patient.

Every parent notices the little things, a missed milestone, an unusual movement, a word that doesn't come as easily as it should.

In children, neurological conditions rarely announce themselves loudly. They show up in patterns, in delays, in moments that are easy to dismiss as "just a phase." From developmental delays and epilepsy to cerebral palsy and movement disorders, early recognition changes the entire trajectory of a child's care.

Dr. Vikas Gupta breaks down what parents and caregivers need to watch for, and why timely neurological evaluation can make all the difference.

Awareness isn't about worry, it's about giving every child the best possible start.

Months of back pain. Then overnight, she couldn't move. She was 72.

A disc had collapsed at L1-L2, pressing directly on the nerve running into her right thigh. On top of years of silent spinal degeneration that had never been properly addressed.

The pr*****ed disc was removed, fused the spine at L1-L2, and stabilised everything from D12 to L3.

Pain gone. Movement restored. Life back.

Sudden worsening of back pain in an elderly parent is never just age. It is a signal, and it needs urgent attention.

Reflecting on a valuable session at Neurovascular Update, Patna 2026, organised by the Department of Neurosurgery, AIIMS Patna, in collaboration with the Bihar Neurosurgery Society, ANEI and NSI.

Dr. Vikas Gupta presented on the endovascular management of posterior circulation stroke, a topic that continues to evolve as technology and technique push the boundaries of what's treatable within the golden window.

He was also felicitated by the organising team for his contribution to the scientific session, a gesture that meant a great deal.

Sessions like these are a reminder of how much stroke outcomes depend on timely, well-informed intervention, and how important it is for specialists across regions to keep learning from one another.

Grateful for the opportunity to exchange knowledge with colleagues from across the field.

A fall six months ago. Back pain that never went away. Walking that kept getting harder. He was 55.

Scans revealed years of hidden damage, multiple discs worn down, the worst level pressing directly on the nerve running down his left leg.

The damaged disc was removed. Placed a fusion cage. Secured the spine with screws and rods from L2 to L5.

Back pain relieved. Leg tingling resolved. Walking normally again.
A fall doesn't cause disc degeneration, it just brings years of damage to the surface. If your back pain is getting worse, don't wait.

NVISICON 2026, the inaugural conference of the Neurovascular Interventions Society of Indraprastha, brought together the best minds in stroke and neurointerventional surgery under one roof.

Dr. Vikas Gupta, Secretary, was honoured to host the inaugural conference of the Neurovascular Interventions Society of Indraprastha at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

From basics of neurointervention to brain aneurysm management, mechanical thrombectomy to AVM embolization, the scientific programme covered it all.

Two days. Six sessions. One goal: better stroke care across India.
Thank you to every faculty member, delegate, and PG student who showed up and made this the conference it was.
