Obesity during pregnancy could lead to long-term cardiovascular morbidity :- A new study has revealed that obesity during pregnancy is an independent risk factor for long-term cardiovascular morbidity, and these complications tend to occur at a younger age.

Researchers concluded that obese pregnant patients might benefit from cardiovascular risk screening that could lead to early detection and secondary prevention of cardiovascular morbidity.

Researchers evaluated data from pregnant women who delivered between 1988 and 1999, and were followed-up retrospectively until 2010. Long-term cardiovascular morbidity was compared among women with and without obesity in pregnancy.

Cardiovascular morbidity was divided into four categories including simple and complex cardiovascular events and invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures.

During the period of study, 46,688 women who delivered were recruited, and of that number, 1221 were found to suffer from obesity. Ten years later, these patients had higher rates of simple cardiovascular events, non-invasive diagnostic procedures, and total number of cardiovascular-related hospitalizations.

The data recovered not only indicates an association between obesity in pregnancy and future risk for cardiovascular morbidity, but also reveals the effect of obesity in pregnancy on earlier occurrence of cardiovascular morbidity.

Dr. Shimrit Yaniv Salem, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Health Sciences, Soroka University Medical Center, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer sheva, Israel, said, "These results are of major importance to the obstetricians counseling a patient regarding future risk for cardiovascular complications. It is important for secondary prevention, early detection, and specific screening programs for this population."

The study will be presented at the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine's annual meeting in New Orleans.

New Delhi: In a major upheaval, Delhi government on Tuesday shunted 16 out of the total of 34 superintendents of hospitals.

These included heads of hospitals like Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, Aruna Asaf Ali Govt Hospital, Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, Madan Mohan Malaviya Hospital, Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital and Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.

In most cases, the outgoing MS has been replaced with a senior doctor from the same hospital. But sources said in at least two cases, officials at the Directorate of Health Services have been appointed to run the hospital with immediate effect.

The government order, issued late evening, does not give reasons behind the mammoth shakeup.

Delhi health minister Satyender Jain termed these as routine changes to improve the hospital management.

Sources said there were complaints against many of the shunted officials.

Health minister, however, refused to comment on corruption charges against some of the medical superintendents and whether that led to their ouster.

Most of the shunted officials were attending a meeting at the Delhi secretariat on Tuesday when they got to know about the transfer orders.

This is the second major step taken by the health minister since formation of AAP-led government in the state.

Before this, the health department has issued orders making it compulsory for doctors to prescribe medicines by their generic name instead of brands.

What is H***noplasty?h***noplasty

H***n reconstruction surgery, also known as h***n surgery, h***noplasty surgery or h***n restoration, is the surgical procedure for repair of the h***n. Using a surgical technique, the torn edges of the h***n are put back together. If done correctly, to the visible eye, there is no apparent scarring and the h***n appears intact. After this type of h***n surgery and without complication, subsequent in*******se will typically tear the membrane causing pain and bleeding.

Why have H***n Repair?

The h***n is a concentric membranous flake of tissue which encircles the va**nal or***ce from the urethral or***ce backwards and allows the escape of menstrual blood.

In many cultures the h***n is considered a token of virginity and for cultural and religious reasons can be an important factor in a new marriage. In many cases marriages are even annulled if the h***n is torn.

Now that h***n repair is available and relatively safe, many women and families are opting for this solution.

What is involved in H***n Repair?

H***n repair is a simple operation which involves excision of the torn edges before stitching them with fine dissolvable sutures. It is often performed under local anaesthetic with sedation, but can also be performed under general anesthetic.

This surgery is not particularly invasive. The h***n actually has a secondary layer that will be sown up to cover the torn skin. As it grafts together once more, the h***n will appear intact. Or if for any reason this is not possible then a new h***n can be created from the lip of the va**na.

H***noplasty is a relatively safe procedure that tends to carry few risks and side effects. However any operation carries a small risk of infection and prolonged bleeding, as well as those associated with anaesthetic.

Any complication from h***n repair is very rare. Occasionally there is a resulting problem of ‘stricture’ or h***n over-correction. This is where the opening becomes narrowed, meaning that the next act of in*******se will be difficult. However this only very rarely causes problems in the long-term.
