Geriatric oncology is the branch of oncology that provides holistic, patient-centered cancer care for older adults, addressing not only the cancer but also the individual’s overall health, function, independence, and quality of life.

Had the privilege of addressing the Senior Citizens Forum on the importance of cancer screening and the principles of geriatric oncology.

The session focused on the value of early detection, age-appropriate screening, recognizing warning signs, and the fact that chronological age alone should never determine cancer treatment. With timely diagnosis and individualized care, many older adults can achieve excellent outcomes while maintaining their quality of life.

Grateful for the engaging discussions and the opportunity to promote healthy ageing through cancer awareness.

Lung cancer continues to be one of the most challenging cancers, largely because most patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage. This makes the role of general physicians and pulmonologists—often the first point of contact—absolutely vital in early detection and timely referral.

I had the privilege of interacting with the physicians and pulmonologists of South Delhi, where we had engaging discussions on the fast-evolving treatment landscape of lung cancer.

With precision oncology, targeted therapies and immunotherapy are enabling personalized treatment strategies and improved outcomes. Still, the message is clear—early diagnosis is the key to long-term survival.
