Four decades ago a philanthropist and a great visionary laid the seed of what is today known as Venu Eye Institute & Research Centre. Seth, an eminent ophthalmologist, and Founder of the Venu Charitable Society realized the limitation of private practice. His desire to spread its reach to the needy, overarching social and economic hurdles, created Venu. Venu pioneered a unique 3-tier service deliv

ery network, in response to the felt need of the patient, to ensure quality eye care services reach the poor and needy in the rural areas. It has a tertiary Base Referral & Teaching Hospital in Delhi, 5 rural secondary level Satellite Hospitals and 9 primary level Vision Centres in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Since its inception, Venu has treated 7.9 million patients and operated 0.48 million.
50% of patients are treated free. Income generated from the 50% paying patients subsidize the 50% free patients. Venu is a university recognized teaching & training centre for postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programmes for Doctors and Optometrists. It is on the panel of over 150 Government and Public Sector Undertakings for eye health of their employees

What happens to your eye during cataract surgery?

A tiny ultrasonic probe enters through a micro-incision less than 3mm wide and gently breaks the clouded lens into small fragments, which are then suctioned out. This step is called phacoemulsification.

Once the clouded lens is fully removed, the eye’s natural lens capsule is left empty and ready for its replacement.

A new artificial lens - folded down to fit through that same micro-incision - is guided into the capsule using a fine injector. Once inside, it unfolds on its own into a full, clear lens and settles into position.
