Every single week in my clinic I see the same patient.

They've had piles for two, three, sometimes five years. They tried Googling it, they tried home remedies, they tried ignoring it and hoping it would go away.

By the time they sit in front of me — what could have been managed conservatively now needs a procedure. Sometimes surgery.

And the hardest part? Almost every single one of them could have avoided it if they had come earlier.

There is no condition in my practice more undertreated due to embarrassment than piles. People will spend years in discomfort rather than spend five minutes with a proctologist — because of the stigma attached to the location of the problem.

So I've made this carousel. Eight slides. Had an opportunity to give a talk on PeTEP, a procedure for ventral hernia at the workshop organised at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. The talk was appreciated by everyone and most importantly by Dr Miguel. It was cherry on the cake to give this talk when he was chairing the session as the talk was based on his work.

Etep Workshop

Glad to share that we organised a live OT observership for ETep procedures at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi under the aegis of AWRSC and Delhi State chapter of ASI.

It was attended by 12 surgeons from different cities.

We demonstrated total 5 procedures. Operated by Dr Tarun Mittal, Dr Ashish Dey and Dr Anmol Ahuja

1. TEP inguinal
2. Etep inguinal x 2
3. Etep RS for epigastric hernia
4. PeTep for Supraumbilical hernia

There was good exchange of academic ideas and surgical tricks.
