Your skeleton has 200+ bones.
But thereās one that plays by completely different rules.
The hyoid bone.
It sits in your neck, just above the voice box ā but unlike almost every other bone in your body, it isnāt attached to another bone.
No joint.
No direct bony connection.
Instead, it is held in position by a network of muscles and ligaments.
And that little bone has a big job.
It moves when you swallow, speak and even breathe, working with the muscles around your throat to make these everyday functions possible.
Think about it ā a bone that doesn't need another bone to hold it in place, yet helps you do things you probably never think twice about.
One bone. Zero joints. Surprisingly important.
