What are the wise choices we must make today and every day? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us today in His inimitable style with powerful examples.

There are three types of minds: (1) minds like ginned cotton, ready to receive the spark of highest wisdom and to give up in one instant blaze, the weakness and prejudices of ages, (2) minds like dry wood, who succeed but only after some little time, and (3) minds, like green logs, which resist the onslaught of the fire of jnana with all their might. Herds of cattle run towards a mirage to slake their thirst, but you ought to be wiser. You have discrimination (viveka), and renunciation (vairagya); you can detach yourselves consciously from pursuits which you discover as deleterious. Sit quiet for a few minutes and ponder over the fate of those who run towards the mirage. Are they happy? Do they have the strength to bear distress and distinction with equanimity? Have they a glimpse of the beauty, the truth, and the grandeur of the Universe which is the handiwork of God?

Gita For Children - Getting Out Of The Rut Of Diversity

"87. ‘OK, the big question now is: “How does a person immersed in this world of diversity rise above it?” This is a very practical question, because 99.999% of the people are immersed in duality and swamped by diversity. They insist on seeing God as quite different from themselves. How to get out of this rut?’

88. ‘One starts with simple steps. One first firmly resolves, “I shall never hurt any being whatsoever.” People hunt and kill animals for sheer pleasure. This is very bad. Are there no better ways of enjoying oneself? Don’t the animals experience pain while being killed? Must one kill another living being for entertainment?’

89. Arjuna asks, ‘OK, but what about slaughtering animals for food? Man has to live, must he not?’

90. Krishna replies, ‘Yes, man has to live and to eat. But who said that you have to kill animals, birds and fishes in order to eat? Why on earth do you think I created crops, vegetables, and fruits? Are there not people who are vegetarians? Are they not keeping themselves alive and healthy? The food argument does not wash!’

91. ‘From the principle of hurting never, you must move on to being kind to all beings.’

92. Arjuna interrupts and ask, ‘Just a minute. How do you expect me to be kind to a tiger?’

93. Krishna replies, ‘I knew you would come up something like that. Listen when I say be kind, I don’t expect you to go the tiger, pat it on its back, scratch it, fo**le it and do things that you would do to a cat. All I am saying is that you must realise that God is present in the tiger also, and at least prevent it from becoming extinct.’

94. ‘You know Arjuna, animals are not what you think them to be. They too respond to love and kindness. You must be aware that Rishis live in forests full of wild animals, snakes and whatnot. But they never come to any harm. Why? Because they always radiate love. And when wild beasts pass that way, this Love envelops them and they become peaceful.’

Why is spiritual pride most dangerous and how should those of us who have the opportunity to participate in the activities of the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation deal with it? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us today.

The great evil that undermines the units of this organisation is pride and jealousy that it engenders. When one person exudes the pride that he alone can sing bhajans well amongst the group, naturally others develop anger, jealousy, hate, malice, and other such deleterious traits. Spiritual pride is the most poisonous of all varieties of pride, it blinds and leads the person suffering from it into ruin. Beware of pride; be always aware that you are but instruments in My Divine Mission of Revival of Righteousness (Dharmasthapana). Try to be more and more efficient as such instruments. The Hand that wields the instrument knows how and when it has to be applied! Be righteous; avoid all prejudices against others on the basis of caste, creed, colour, mode of worship, status or degree of affluence. Love alone can root out the w**d of pride from the heart. Love all, as so many forms of God, appearing in various roles.

“Great men, renowned in all the continents of the world are the children of this soil, they are the issue of Mother India. Bharath is the great Battle field where the foreign invaders were put to rout and Independence was won.
Ages old Indian erudition is famous throughout the world and Mother India’s wisdom and skill have won encomiums.
Glory be unto this land, Bharath.
Bharath is the holy land wherein flourished, since time immemorial
The fine arts – Music, Literature and all the branches of Science.
It is the land of the wise, the erudite,
The highly skilled and talented men and women.
Bharath is the blessed land of birth of Sages and Saints.
Born on this land of Bharath -
so sacred, so holy, so noble, so evolved and enlightened you are duty bound to guard the riches of righteousness.
Oh! Devotees, the responsibility rests squarely on your shoulders”.
It is the duty of each one of us to know about our country which is called Bharath. But why is it called so?
According to History because Prince Bharatha, the son of Shakuntala and Dushyanta ruled the country, it is called Bharath. Some say that since Bharath, the younger brother of Rama ruled the country, it is called Bharath. Yet some others say since King Jada Bharath ruled the country, it is called Bharath. But one must note that the name ‘Bharath’ must have been in existence before the birth of these people.
The word ‘Bharathi’ is found in the Vedas, further is it not the name for the Goddess of Learning Saraswathi who represents the power of speech and wisdom as well. So Bharath is a land of wisdom. Bharatheeyas are wisdom loving people. The term Bharath is constituted of BHA + RATH meaning Wisdom and Love. It also means BHA – God, RATH – loving; Bharatheeyas are God loving and wisdom loving people. Bharath also means one who can experience and manifest knowledge of the self and revel in it.
It also means BHA = Bhava (feeling), RA = Raga (melody), THA = Thala (rhythm). Bharatheeyas observe the harmonious blend of feeling, melody and rhythm. It is nothing but harmony of thought, word and deed. It is the very essence of Indian music and life as well. Bharatheeyas are God loving people, Wisdom loving people and people who possess all types of strengths namely Atmic, Intellectual and Physical. God loving means loving and praying to God enshrined in everyone and in everything. The foremost faith of Bharatheeyas is “Isavasyam Idam Sarvam”.
