And here comes a big change , one of the most common disease of reproductive age group is getting a new name and justifiably so.

As of May 2026 , endocrine society and many other groups have come to a consensus of renaming PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) to PMOS (Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) to better reflect it as a complex, multisystem, metabolic, and endocrine disorder rather than just a gynecological condition with mere ovarian cysts.

Being a very common and well known disease , it was mostly narrowed down with just ovarian cyst and it’s menstrual symptoms often overlooking the bigger metabolic picture associated with it. So the change in terminology is like a tribute to the entire syndrome affecting various systems and entire body rather and mere ovaries.

যে প্রচলিত ধারণা আছে PCOS মানেই ডিম্বাশয়ে সিস্ট হওয়া , মাসিকের সমস্যা ও বাচ্চা আসতে সমস‍্যা হওয়া, তা ছাড়াও যে এই রোগের অনেক উপসর্গ আছে, সমস্ত শরীরের উপর এর প্রভাব পড়ে সেটা বোঝাতেই এই নাম পরিবর্তনের সিদ্ধান্ত

PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) এর পরিবর্তে
PMOS (Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome)॥ যার উপসর্গ , রোগ নির্ণয় প্রক্রিয়া ও চিকিৎসা সবই অপরিবর্তিত থাকবে ।
