কলকাতার চ্যাটার্জী পরিবার গত ১৭ বছর ধরে SAHAS-এর সাথে যুক্ত। তাদের শ্রবণ প্রতিবন্ধী মেয়ে অহনাকে নিয়ে তাঁরা SAHAS-এ এসেছিলেন। সেই অহনা তার স্কুল বোর্ড শেষ করেছে। সাফল্যের সঙ্গে কলেজে প্রবেশের দ্বারপান্তে এসে পৌঁছেছে সে। নীচের ভিডিওতে শুনুন তার নিজের কথা। তাহলেই আপনি বুঝতে পারবেন অহনার কতটা উন্নতি হয়েছে।
অহনার বাবা পেশায় SSKM-এর একজন অ্যানেস্থেটিস্ট। মা রিমলি, যাঁর স্নাতকোত্তর ডিগ্রি রয়েছে। কিন্তু তিনি মেয়েকে মূলস্রোতে ফিরিয়ে আনতে এতটাই নিমগ্ন ছিলেন যে নিজেই B.Ed. (special-education) করে ফেলেন। তাঁর নেতৃত্বে SAHAS কলকাতায় আসানসোলের মতো একটি উপ-কেন্দ্র খোলার স্বপ্ন দেখছে। আসানসোলের উপকেন্দ্র যেমন পরিচালনা করছেন তাঁরই মতো আর এক যোগ্য মা, পায়েল সরকার। SAHAS গর্বিত যে বিশেষ শিক্ষক হতে চাওয়া মায়েদের সংখ্যা ক্রমশ বাড়ছে।
অহনার বিকাশে তার বাবা-মায়ের সঙ্গেই মামার ভূমিকাও উল্লেখযোগ্য। ছোট্ট শিশুকন্যাকে নিয়ে রিমলি যখন দুর্গাপুরে SAHAS-এ আসতেন প্রশিক্ষণ নিতে, মাসিক অভিভাবক সভায় যোগ দিতে বা বিশেষ কোনও পরামর্শ নিতে, তখন সব সময় সঙ্গে থাকতেন অহনার মামা। সকল বোনের পক্ষ থেকে আমরা এই ভাইকে স্যালুট জানাই!
Meet the Chatterjee family from Kolkata who have been with SAHAS for the past 17 years with their profoundly hearing impaired daughter, Ahana, who has just finished her school boards and waiting to enter the portals of college. Hear her talking about herself and you will understand how sorted she is.
With Ahana is her mother Rimli, a postgraduate otherwise, but one who has immersed herself so much in the world of rehabilitation that she ended up doing a B.Ed. (special-education). With her at the helm, SAHAS dreams of opening a sub-centre at Kolkata just like the one at
Asansol where another qualified mother, Payel Sarkar leads. SAHAS feels proud that more and more sucessful mothers are opting to be special educators.
Ahana's father, an anaesthetist by profession at SSKM, has taken an avid interest in both mother and daughter's intellectual development. His endorsement of SAHAS' methods means a lot, coming as it is from the medical fraternity.
In Ahana's development the role of her Mama(maternal uncle) is no less. Since the time the Chatterjee family came in touch with SAHAS he has been as constant as the Sun, never leaving his sister's side, when Rimli would come all the way from Kolkata with her baby daughter for the training, monthly parent meetings or just for interim consultations! This is what family involvement truly means! On behalf of all sisters we salute this brother who truly embodies the ritualistic Raksha-Bandhan!
