First Trimester: The Foundation of a Healthy Pregnancy

The first 3 months of pregnancy are one of the most important phases of your baby’s development. This is when vital organs begin to form, making every food choice and lifestyle habit matter.

✅ Eat small, nutritious meals every 3–4 hours
✅ Focus on vitamins, minerals, protein, and hydration
✅ Never skip breakfast
✅ Choose fresh, home-cooked foods whenever possible

❌ Avoid prolonged fasting
❌ Limit excess caffeine and processed foods
❌ Stay away from unpasteurized dairy, unsafe street food, and self-medication
❌ Do not take herbal supplements without medical advice

Remember, pregnancy is not about “eating for two”—it’s about eating wisely for one growing life.

Every pregnancy is unique, so always consult your gynecologist before making major dietary or lifestyle changes.

Are herbal teas really the answer to weight gain and hormonal imbalance?

While many teas trending on social media claim to balance hormones and help with weight loss, it's important to understand that these are complementary therapies. They may help some people, but they are not a substitute for proper medical evaluation.

Hormonal symptoms can be linked to conditions involving the thyroid, cortisol levels, estrogen, progesterone, FSH, LH, prolactin, and other important hormones. Before relying on supplements or herbal remedies, a thorough hormonal assessment is essential to identify the real cause of your symptoms.

Don't self-diagnose based on trends. The right treatment starts with the right diagnosis.

"Will birth control pills make me gain weight?"

This is one of the most common concerns women have when starting contraceptive pills.

The truth is, birth control pills themselves are not usually responsible for significant weight gain. In some women, the estrogen component can cause temporary bloating and water retention, especially during the first few months. As your body adjusts to the medication, this usually settles down.

Sometimes, these pills may increase appetite, which can lead to eating more and indirectly contribute to weight changes. On the other hand, certain pills prescribed for PCOS can even support weight management in the right clinical setting.

If you feel your current pill isn't suiting you or you're concerned about weight changes, don't stop it on your own. Speak to your gynecologist, there are multiple safe and effective alternatives available.

IUCDs or intrauterine contraceptive devices are one of the most effective long term contraceptive options available today. Depending on the type, they can provide protection for 3, 5, or even 10 years. There are also hormonal IUCDs that not only offer contraception but can also help reduce heavy menstrual bleeding.

While insertion is usually a quick 5 minute procedure, every woman’s experience can be different. Some may feel mild discomfort while others can experience stronger cramping during or after insertion. This is why proper aseptic precautions, correct insertion technique, and close follow up with your gynecologist are extremely important to reduce the risk of infection and manage any pain or bleeding.

After insertion, regular follow ups matter. Your doctor may advise a checkup after one week and again after your first menstrual cycle. It is also important to learn how to check the IUCD thread after every cycle to ensure the device is properly placed.

Choosing the right contraceptive starts with understanding your body and discussing the best option with your doctor.

Not every episode of spotting is dangerous sometimes, light mid-cycle spotting can happen due to a temporary drop in estrogen levels around ovulation, and that can be completely normal.
But there are certain types of bleeding that should never be ignored.
1. Bleeding after in*******se (post-coital bleeding) needs immediate evaluation, as it may be linked to cervical infections, cervical erosion, polyps, or even cervical cancer.
2. Any bleeding after menopause, even for just 1-2 days, deserves medical attention. While it may be caused by conditions like fibroids or polyps, it is important to rule out endometrial cancer as well.
3. Bleeding between periods, unusually heavy bleeding, or changes in your regular menstrual pattern are also signs that your body may be asking for help.
An ultrasound and proper gynecological evaluation can help identify the cause early and guide the right treatment.
Your body gives signals, don’t ignore them. Early attention can make all the difference.

PCOS isn’t just about “cysts” anymore.
Experts are now recognising it as a much broader hormonal and metabolic condition, which is why the term PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome) is being discussed.

Because this condition can affect:
• Hormones
• Insulin resistance
• Weight & metabolism
• Skin & hair health
• Ovulation & fertility
• Emotional well-being

The older terminology often failed to reflect the full complexity of what many women actually experience.

But one thing remains most important:
✔️ Early diagnosis
✔️ Lifestyle management
✔️ Hormonal & metabolic balance
✔️ Long-term health support

A name change alone doesn’t change treatment- awareness, understanding, and timely care do.
