Why is it considered minimally invasive?

Unlike a Total Knee Replacement, only the damaged compartment of the knee is replaced while the healthy cartilage, bone, and ligaments are preserved.

Benefits of a Minimally Invasive Partial Knee Replacement• Smaller incision in suitable patients• Less damage to muscles and soft tissues• Reduced blood loss• Less post-operative pain• Faster recovery and rehabilitation• Better knee movement• A more natural-feeling knee because important ligaments are preserved

Who Is a Good Candidate?Partial knee replacement is suitable only if:• Arthritis is limited to one compartment of the knee• The ACL and other important ligaments are healthy• The remaining cartilage is well preserved• The knee is stable without severe deformity

Not everyone with knee arthritis is a candidate for a partial knee replacement. Your orthopedic surgeon will determine the best option after examining you and reviewing your X-rays or MRI.

A properly selected patient can achieve excellent pain relief while preserving much of their natural knee.

5 Monsoon Safety Tips After Knee Replacement Surgery 🌧️🦵

If you have recently undergone knee replacement surgery, the rainy season requires extra precautions to prevent slips, falls, and fractures.

Here are 5 important things to remember:

✅ 1. Wear anti-slip footwear on wet floors
Never walk barefoot, in socks, or in a hurry on wet surfaces. A simple slip can lead to a serious fall.

✅ 2. Keep your bathroom floor dry
After using the bathroom, make sure the floor is properly dried to reduce the risk of slipping.

✅ 3. Don’t stop using walking aids without your surgeon’s advice
If you are still in the early recovery phase and using a walker, stick, or crutches, continue using them until your surgeon says it’s safe to stop.

✅ 4. Use handrails while climbing stairs
Always hold the railing while going up or down stairs to maintain balance and prevent accidental falls.

✅ 5. Avoid rushing for phones, doorbells, or other things
Suddenly getting up and walking quickly can cause loss of balance — especially during recovery.

Remember, a fall after knee replacement can lead to fractures, which may significantly delay recovery. In older patients, bones can be weaker, and treating these fractures may require complex surgeries with longer plates or multiple implants.

The goal of knee replacement is to help you return to a normal life — protecting your new knee during recovery is equally important.

Your first follow-up after a hip or knee replacement is an important milestone. It helps ensure that your recovery is progressing as expected.

1. Wound Healing
The surgeon checks the incision for proper healing and looks for any redness, swelling, discharge, or signs of infection.

2. Pain & Swelling
Some pain and swelling are expected after surgery, but your doctor will assess whether they are improving normally.

3. Range of Motion
Your hip or knee movement is evaluated to see how well you’re regaining flexibility and mobility.

4. Walking Pattern
Your surgeon will assess your gait, balance, and whether you are walking comfortably with or without support.

5. Muscle Strength
The muscles around the joint are checked to ensure they are recovering with physiotherapy.

6. X-Rays
Post-operative X-rays are reviewed to confirm that the implant is well-positioned and stable.

7. Stitches or Dressing
If required, stitches or staples may be removed, and the wound dressing is changed or discontinued.

8. Physiotherapy Progress
Your recovery plan is reviewed, and exercises or weight-bearing instructions may be adjusted based on your progress.

9. Warning Signs
Your surgeon will also ask about symptoms such as fever, increasing pain, wound discharge, calf pain, or difficulty bearing weight, as these may require further evaluation.

A successful joint replacement doesn’t end in the operating room. Regular follow-ups help ensure your new joint heals well and functions optimally.

What Is PRP Therapy? How Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment Works

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a regenerative treatment that uses your own blood to promote healing in injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and early joint conditions.

🩸 Step 1: Blood Collection
A small amount of your blood is drawn, similar to a routine blood test.

🔄 Step 2: Centrifugation
The blood sample is placed in a centrifuge machine, which spins at high speed to separate the blood into different layers.

🧪 Step 3: Platelet-Rich Plasma Separation
The layer containing a high concentration of platelets is carefully extracted. These platelets contain growth factors that support tissue healing and repair.

💉 Step 4: PRP Injection
The concentrated PRP is injected into the injured area, often under ultrasound guidance for greater accuracy.

⏳ What Happens Next?
The growth factors released by the platelets help stimulate the body’s natural healing response. Improvement is usually gradual and may take several weeks.

✅ Common Uses of PRP
• Early knee arthritis
• Tennis elbow & golfer’s elbow
• Plantar fasciitis
• Rotator cuff injuries
• Tendon and ligament injuries
• Certain muscle injuries

⚠️ Important to Know
PRP is not a stem cell treatment and is not a cure for advanced arthritis. It works best in carefully selected patients and should be recommended only after a proper orthopedic evaluation.
