Su***de is the leading cause of death in the 15-39 years age group in India. WHO states that one person dies due to su***de every 40 seconds. Even more alarming is the incidence of students su***de rate in India. Over the past two decades, student su***des have grown at an alarming annual rate of 4%; the number of student su***des increased from 6,654 to 13,044.
Now is the high time to shift from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding and support. Let’s start the conversation… because every life matters!!!

Schizophrenia is a treatable mental illness that affects over 20 million people worldwide. The illness causes a significant impairment in the cognitive, emotional, behavioural, occupation and social functioning of the patient.
On a societal level, schizophrenia can lead to:
Economic burden: Healthcare costs, lost productivity, and disability payments associated with schizophrenia impose a significant financial strain.

Stigma and discrimination: Misunderstandings about the disorder can lead to social stigma, discrimination, and barriers to accessing treatment and support services.

Public safety concerns: In some cases, untreated schizophrenia can lead to behaviors that pose risks to oneself or others, highlighting the importance of early intervention and support.

Considering the significant social burden that the illness places on the patient as well as the family, the theme for World Schizophrenia Day 2024 is “Celebrating the Power of Community Kindness.” The campaign aims to foster empathy and support for individuals with schizophrenia, promote early intervention and treatment, and raise awareness among the public, healthcare professionals, and policymakers. On this day let us all come together to dispel myths, challenge stereotypes, and encourage empathy and support for individuals living with schizophrenia and their families, because their lives matter too!!!

A person's mental well-being impacts their ability to exercise their basic human rights, such as the right to education and the right to work. When mental health is protected, individuals are better equipped to engage meaningfully in society.Hence, every individual, regardless of their location, occupation, or identity, is entitled to achieve the highest attainable level of mental well-being. This encompasses the entitlement to safeguard oneself from mental health risks, access to mental health care that is readily available, easily accessed, and of high quality, as well as the entitlement to freedom and involvement within their community.

Today on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, let's all come together in promoting this year's theme "Mental Health is a Universal Human right". Let's break the stigma and discrimination together, let's give love, care and respect to everyone struggling with mental illness, reach out and listen to those who want to be heard. Let's pledge to make this world a better place to live in, where we are at the best of our mental health 😊

HAPPY WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY☺️☺️☺️
