➡️Since 2026, PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome) is the newer name for what was previously called PCOS. It is a hormonal and metabolic condition affecting periods, skin, hair, fertility and metabolism.
🔊PMOS: More Than Just an Ovarian Problem
💁♀️PMOS (formerly PCOS) is a complex hormonal and metabolic condition.
🗣Common signs include irregular periods, acne, excessive facial/body hair, scalp hair thinning, weight gain, oily skin, skin tags and dark, thickened skin around the neck or underarms (acanthosis nigricans).
🤷♀️A Dermatologist can sometimes identify important skin and hair clues that may suggest an underlying hormonal problem. Careful history and examination can help differentiate PMOS-related acne, hirsutism or hair loss from other conditions and guide appropriate treatment or referral.
Diagnosis may require hormonal/metabolic evaluation and, when appropriate, gynecological or endocrinological assessment.
Don't treat the skin symptoms alone—look for the underlying cause.
